About SEF

What is SEF?

SEF — Sydfyns Elforsyning — is a Danish energy and infrastructure group founded in 1906, when it began as a small power plant serving 436 lighting customers in the Svendborg area of South Funen. Today it describes itself as "an energy group with many activities, delivering solutions across a broad range of energy, heating and communication." The group supplies electricity and natural gas, promotes heat pumps and local heating through Nærvarme Danmark, runs fibre-broadband networks (SEF Fiber), carries out network and electrical installation through FiberLAN, and operates the electricity grid via FLOW Elnet. Its vision is to "deliver innovative energy and infrastructure solutions, thereby bridging human well-being, social responsibility and respect for the planet's limited resources," investing its profits in a green transition rooted in South Funen but reaching across Denmark.

Where will I work?

SEF is based at Fåborgvej 44 in Svendborg, on the Danish island of Funen, with FiberLAN operations also in Odense and Fredericia. Roles are primarily onsite at these locations, reflecting a utility that maintains physical energy and fibre infrastructure for its local communities. For office-based roles, SEF advertises "the possibility of home working" (Mulighed for hjemmearbejde) and "flexible working hours" (Fleksible arbejdstider), giving day-to-day flexibility alongside the onsite base.

What is the SEF team like?

SEF presents itself as a modern workplace built around four values: taking care of the business, the customers, each other, and society ("Vi passer på forretningen / vores kunder / hinanden / samfundet"). Its leadership philosophy is captured in the phrase "We want to be better at taking care of each other" (Vi vil være bedre til at passe på hinanden). The group is proud of being "a group where values and well-being are a precondition for what we do," and it stays rooted in its region — "the wish to contribute to the development of South Funen runs as a red thread through SEF's history." Teams span energy supply and advisory, district heating, fibre and IT/data technicians, electrical installation, and administration and customer-facing functions.

Work-Life Balance

Work-life balance is a stated company commitment, not a perk: "At SEF we take a sustainable approach both to the society around us and to our colleagues, because there must be a balance between work and private life." On 1 April 2025, SEF introduced a four-day working week for all employees across the group: staff moved to a 32-hour week, cutting five hours and taking Fridays off (previously 8 hours Monday–Thursday and 5 hours on Friday). Its subsidiary FiberLAN has run a four-day week since 2022. SEF says it made the change to safeguard employee well-being and deliver an even better customer experience, and to cut its climate footprint, since "fewer working days means fewer commuting days." Job postings for the four-day arrangement state it comes "at the same pay" (til samme løn).

Perks and Benefits

SEF offers pension and a health-insurance scheme (pension og sundhedsordning), described as "attractive staff benefits" (Attraktive personalegoder). For office roles it lists a gym membership (Fitness Medlemskab), a lunch scheme (Frokostordning), the option to work from home (Mulighed for hjemmearbejde) and flexible working hours (Fleksible arbejdstider). The group also emphasises "good opportunities for personal and professional development, as well as influence over your own future," and an ISO 9001-certified, quality-focused working environment.
