About Rise

Who We Are

Rise is a charity dedicated to making physical activity accessible across Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside, and Sunderland. We collaborate with local, regional, and national partners to create opportunities for people to be more active, with a primary focus on underrepresented groups who face barriers to participation. Our efforts are supported by Sport England and a network of 42 Active Partnerships across the country, enabling us to make a meaningful impact on community health across the North East.

What We Do

Our work spans various sectors, including local authority leisure teams, public health, education, housing, and criminal justice. By addressing barriers to physical activity, we aim to improve health and wellbeing, with an especially significant emphasis on engaging those who are currently inactive. We develop local, place-based approaches and solutions through initiatives like the Opening Schools Facilities (OSF) Programme, which seeks to reduce inequalities and get more children and young people active outside school hours.

Through our partnerships and programmes, we're creating sustainable change that reaches people where they are, ensuring that physical activity becomes an accessible and enjoyable part of everyday life for communities across the region.

Working at Rise

We participate in the 4-Day Week National Roll Out Programme, allowing full-time employees to work 30 hours per week with no salary reduction.
