About Resilience Brokers

What is Resilience Brokers?

Resilience Brokers is a London-based, charity-backed climate consultancy that helps city regions use systems thinking to improve climate resilience. The company is registered as Resilience Brokers Ltd (Companies House 10846824), wholly owned by the Ecological Sequestration Trust — a UK charity (1143397) founded by civil engineer Peter Head after 34 years at ARUP, where he led the Global Planning Division.

The work spans three core offers: convening people across sectors, co-designing solutions with cities and partners, and planning for places using data-driven tools. The portfolio includes data-driven finance for a sustainable Kenya (Kisumu), the Living Lab Playbook for climate resilience innovation, a post-Covid sustainability pathway for Yucatán in Mexico, Net-Zero Waste Champions in Norfolk, The Healthy City report co-authored with WPI Economics and Nexus Planning, the Open Data Infrastructure for City Resilience Navigator, the Exeter Living Lab, an Ebbsfleet Central garden-city sustainability vision, City Finance Lab work on the Northern Gateway, Pivot Projects, ACT on NBS (nature-based solutions), and Nexus Resilience.

John Elkington, founder of Volans and originator of the Triple Bottom Line, has endorsed the team: "The exponential challenges we face to deliver the SDGs demand exponential solutions. Incremental approaches, while important, are no longer sufficient... it is more important than ever before to get behind breakthrough innovators like the Resilience Brokers."

Where will I work?

Resilience Brokers' registered office is 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA. The team is small and operates as a "networked organisation" — collaborating closely with city regions and partners worldwide. As the about page describes it: "We are used to rapidly deploying expertise and resources to address city-region challenges around the globe and deliver positive outcomes."

What is the Resilience Brokers team like?

The management team is led by Andre Head (Chief Design Officer), Alastair Kennedy (Finance Director), and Peter Head (Non-Executive Chair and founder), with named team members including Jeroen Brink, Louisa Harris (change specialist), Lubaina Mirza (urban designer), Andrew Simmons (Director of Urban Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), and Philipp Ulbrich (development researcher).

The about page sets out the working philosophy clearly: "We are courageous, unafraid to challenge the status quo; collaborative, mutually reinforcing in all of our relationships; and ingenious, always working to make complexity more understandable and generate positive actions." Beyond values, the operating model is explicit: "As a networked organisation, we believe we work better than traditional organisations. We communicate well, rely on trust and integrity, as well as shared leadership, responsibilities and objectives, and always foster positive, beneficial interactions." On client engagements, Resilience Brokers prefers alliance contracting — "which ensures there is collective ownership of projects."

Work-Life Balance

Resilience Brokers is explicit about its 4-day week on the public about page — one of the cleanest verbatim policies on the site:

"We aim to be effortlessly effective. We are a 4-day a week employer allowing everyone in the organisation time for wellness and mental health, when people bring their best selves and highest levels of creativity to do the best work of their careers and have fun doing it."

The company also champions life-long learning and "self reflection and critical thinking" as part of how the team works.

Hiring is opportunistic — "from time to time we advertise jobs and internships" — and the team welcomes speculative enquiries at [email protected].

Perks and Benefits

  • Shared leadership in a flat, networked structure
  • Mission-driven work on climate resilience in city regions globally
  • Diversity — "we are completely committed to diversity"
