About Purple Computing
What is Purple Computing?
Purple is a Certified Apple IT Support specialist — "providing fast, experienced and trusted Apple IT support, consultancy and project management for business." The team supports businesses of all sizes across the south and southwest of the UK, with deep expertise in Apple hardware and software (macOS, iOS), cloud platforms (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Microsoft Entra/Azure), networking (Synology, DrayTek, Ubiquiti/UniFi, Tailscale, ZeroTier), telephony (3CX), and MDM (Mosyle).
The culture is direct and trust-based: "Purple is an inclusive and transparent workplace where every team member's voice is heard and embraced in alignment with our company's vision. We prioritise growth and long-term success, offering a four-day work week, bonuses and incentives, and a supportive, positive environment." The company also publishes its 10 most recent client feedback comments in real-time on the careers page — "When we solve a support ticket, clients are given the choice of leaving good or bad feedback along with an optional comment. We post the 10 most recent comments here automatically and in real-time."
Where will I work?
Roles are hybrid with travel to customer sites — engineering positions are "nominally based in Bath, Bristol or Exeter, but our client base is spread across the south and southwest; being based anywhere in that region would be suitable if you are willing to travel to customer sites 2-3 days per week up to ~2 hours." Mileage is paid at 45p per mile (own vehicle required).
What is the Purple team like?
Purple is currently hiring L2 Engineer and L3 Engineer roles. Hiring criteria are unusual and direct: "We hire for high agency, adaptability, and curiosity. Your friendly demeanour, commitment to outstanding customer service, and ability to navigate a wide range of tasks could make you a strong fit for our team."
The career page is candid about job-fit: "If you are hard-working and highly customer-focused, and you have most but not all of the posted technical experience, you should still apply." The L2 role responsibilities emphasise knowledge transfer (KB articles) and mentoring L1 colleagues — Purple invests in growing junior staff through hands-on support and training.
Work-Life Balance
Purple's 4-day working week as standard (34 hours) is the headline benefit. The annual leave allowance is six weeks per year (counted in 4-day weeks), plus generous Christmas / New Year working hours. Sick leave is one week fully paid per year, payable as a cash bonus if unclaimed — an unusual incentive that rewards consistent attendance. Hybrid working with travel to client sites is the operational default for engineering roles.
