About Primary
Who We Are
Primary is a mom-founded kids clothing brand started by co-founders Galyn Bernard and Christina Carbonell in 2015 and headquartered in New York City's Fashion District. The company exists to help every kid be their truest self. From their founders' note: "Years ago, we were shopping for our own kids and kept running into the same rules: pink for girls, blue for boys, slogans telling them who they are and how to be. So we threw out that rulebook and created our own."
We've created simple, beautiful, gender-neutral styles made to last — with super-soft, sustainable fabrics and slogan-free designs that let kids shine in what they wear. Our customers care deeply about what we do, helping us build one of the highest NPS scores in the industry (85+!) and an incredibly loyal community. We're growing a strong, sustainable, and profitable business (Primary Kids, Inc., NY, NY).
The Primary Playbook — what we believe
Six brand pillars guide everything we do, verbatim from our about page:
- Simplicity — Colors for all, labels for none. You won't find logos or slogans — just a rainbow of colors and prints that mix-and-match.
- Quality — Our products are tested to be truly hand-me-downable, holding up to every wash, wear, and little sibling who comes next.
- Inclusivity — Shop for babies and kids, not boys and girls — because we believe every color and style is for every kid.
- Wearability — We craft our clothes with soft fabrics, flat seams, and more sensory-friendly details so kids can be comfortable, inside and out.
- Sustainability — From our organic styles to our use of PVC-free packaging, we're eco-friendly from fabric to front door.
- Humanity — Real people — we call them our WOW team! — are here to help and answer your call, email, or chat.
How we work
We value kind, curious, and thoughtful self-starters who think strategically, collaborate generously, and care about doing great work. We're also a change-friendly bunch — always open to new ideas and perspectives that make Primary better for our customers, our teammates, and our world. From our active job description (Wholesale & Marketplaces Assistant, Req 1004):
- A hands-on, get-it-done mindset — not afraid to roll up your sleeves
- Flexibility and adaptability — comfortable with change in a dynamic environment
- A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset
- A collaborative, team-first approach — building strong relationships in a respectful environment
Monday–Thursday work schedule
Primary's active job descriptions on its ADP Workforce Now careers portal explicitly state, verbatim: "This role will initially work a roughly 9a-5p, M-Th schedule." Translating that into our hours: 8 hours per day × 4 days (Monday through Thursday) = a 32-hour week with Fridays off, sized to suit each role.
Transparency and inclusion
We publish salary ranges openly on every job posting (for example, the current Wholesale & Marketplaces Assistant role is listed at $23.00–$26.00 hourly). We're committed to building an inclusive workplace that welcomes diverse perspectives and experiences. We partner with Disclo — a secure third-party platform — for accommodations during the hiring process, and we encourage applicants to reach out to [email protected] with any needs.
