About People's Partnership
What is People's Partnership?
People's Partnership is the provider of The People's Pension, and it is built differently from most financial services firms: "We're a profit for people organisation. As a business without shareholders, we reinvest our profits to help customers and achieve better financial outcomes for everyone." Its stated mission is "to use our profits to provide straightforward, accessible, trusted financial products and support."
The business is more than 80 years old. It began in 1942, "created by unions and employer federations," helping construction workers build up holiday pay through a simple stamp system — by the 1950s that scheme "had already helped over 1m workers during a time when employee benefits such as this were hard to come by." Today it is "one of the largest workplace pension providers in this country," helping "1 in 5 UK workers aged 22+ with a workplace pension save for their retirement." Older products still trade under the company's former name, B&CE.
Where will I work?
Crawley, West Sussex. "This was the year we made our lasting move from London to Crawley," the company says of 1963, and it has been there ever since: "We now employ over 600 colleagues based across 2 buildings in Manor Royal Business District, and we're still growing today." It describes itself as "a diverse employer with a flexible, hybrid working approach, ensuring everyone gets the opportunity to come to work and be the best version of themselves." On site there is a staff restaurant "providing hot and cold meals and snacks at a subsidised rate," and "a well-equipped gym on site which employees can use for free."
What is the People's Partnership team like?
Three values drive the business: understand people, create simplicity and keep our promises. "We have no shareholders, so our people work towards achieving better financial outcomes for everyone." In return the company commits to "value and reward you in a clear way," "help you to develop a fulfilling career" and "ask you what you think and how you feel."
Six colleague networks — LGBTQIA+, Mind HEALTH, Parents and Carers, Multicultural, Disability and Gender Diversity — "meet monthly to discuss new initiatives around their network and give ideas and advice to the business." A dedicated Learning and Development team supports in-house training, funded external courses and apprenticeships running "from foundational skills to advanced professional certifications such as CIPD or MBA." There is a social side too: football, golf and squash clubs, quiz nights, indoor go-karting and company barbecues.
Work-Life Balance
Hybrid and flexible working is the stated norm, and parental policies "include enhanced maternity/adoption pay, enhanced paternity/adoption pay, parental leave and time off for dependents" once you have been with the company for a qualifying period. Volunteering days let employees spend time with a charity of their choice, alongside payroll giving with tax relief. As "an accredited real living wage employer," the company sets its pay floor above the legal minimum. The annual leave allowance is not published.
