About Paytient

What is Paytient?

Paytient helps people pay for healthcare over time. Its mission is "To help people better access and afford care." Employers, health plans and insurers sponsor Paytient's Health Payment Account (HPA) and Paytient Visa credit card for their members, who use them at the point of care and spread the cost through interest-free payment plans, while "Providers are paid in full." It also offers health plans a service for administering the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan (M3P), and supports the plan advocates who use its portals to help Medicare members. Brian Whorley worked in his local hospital for two decades and "saw patients carrying more and more of the cost"; in 2018 he and Daniel Lynn launched Paytient "with a goal to provide access to care without financial harm." Paytient says it is now part of nearly 6,000 employer health plans, and that 78% of its members accessed care they would have delayed or skipped.

Where will I work?

Paytient calls its model "remote with roots". Its "heart and headquarters are in Columbia, Missouri", but "Teammates work primarily from wherever they thrive, and we gather regularly to connect, collaborate, and advance our mission." Its standing application for technical roles says they "can be performed from anywhere in the continental U.S., with the exception of Montana." Of the two roles open in September 2026, a senior B2B integrated marketing manager is advertised for the United States, and a Support Representative I is based at the Columbia office: candidates must live within 30 miles, work in the office three days a week and cover a weekday shift from 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm Central, plus every third weekend, and weekend shifts are worked remotely.

What is the Paytient team like?

Paytient's three values are "Live the mission", "Lift others" and "Light the way". "We are missionaries, not mercenaries," it says, and its people "work smarter (and rest well)". Founder Brian Whorley is chief executive and Daniel Lynn chief technology officer, in an executive team of eight that also includes a chief operating officer, a chief commercial officer, a chief financial officer and a chief outcomes officer. "Experience in healthcare or finance is a plus, but not required," Paytient says of the people it hires, whom it calls "Believers in Better". Current roles span marketing and member support; the support team works with both health-plan advocates and members, by phone and email, and its posting says it values quality and kindness over call volume.

Work-Life Balance

Every posting lists "Five weeks of annual PTO" and a "Week-long fully paid 'summer break' for all employees!" — 30 days off a year before any public holidays, which the postings do not mention. There are also "Ten weeks of bonding leave for new parents" and "Two weeks of caregiver leave", and the about page frames the package as "tools and time to take care of yourself and your family". Teammates work "primarily from wherever they thrive", with regular gatherings in Columbia; the member-support role is the exception, with fixed afternoon-and-evening shifts, in-office days and a weekend rota.
