About New Disabled South
What is New Disabled South?
New Disabled South (NDS) is a regional disability rights organisation founded in 2022 and based in Atlanta, Georgia. It is the first organisation of its kind to work across 14 southern US states, focusing on disability justice with an emphasis on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ disabled communities. NDS works at the intersection of disability rights, racial justice, and queer liberation.
The organisation engages in policy advocacy, community organising, leadership development, and cultural work to advance disability justice across the American South. NDS centres the experiences and leadership of those most marginalised within the disability community.
Where will I work?
New Disabled South is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and operates a hybrid work model. Given the organisation's regional scope across 14 southern states, team members work both from the Atlanta office and remotely, with flexibility to accommodate the distributed nature of the work.
What is the New Disabled South team like?
With approximately 28 employees, New Disabled South is a passionate, mission-driven team of advocates, organisers, policy analysts, and programme coordinators. The team reflects the communities they serve, bringing lived experience of disability alongside professional expertise in social justice, public policy, and community development.
The culture is deeply collaborative, centring accessibility and inclusion in all internal practices. As a disability-focused organisation, NDS models the workplace practices it advocates for.
