About Mental Health Foundation
What is Mental Health Foundation?
The Mental Health Foundation is the UK's oldest mental health charity, established in 1949. With prevention at the heart of their mission, they work to understand, protect, and sustain mental health across communities. The Foundation is home to Mental Health Awareness Week, the UK's largest public mental health campaign, reaching millions each year.
Their work spans research, advocacy, community programmes, and evidence-based resources designed to help people look after their mental wellbeing before problems develop. They address root causes of poor mental health including poverty, inequality, and discrimination. The Foundation has over 70 years of pioneering change and is not afraid to challenge the status quo.
Where will I work?
The Mental Health Foundation is headquartered at 1 London Bridge Walk, London SE1 2SX, with additional offices in Edinburgh, Cardiff, and Belfast. The organisation operates a hybrid working model with flexible working available from day one. Their modern office footprint is designed to facilitate hybrid working, and staff can split their time between the office and home.
What is the team like?
With approximately 98 employees across four UK offices, the Mental Health Foundation is a medium-sized charity with a diverse and inclusive culture. They are committed to ensuring that diversity of thought, background, and experience is reflected in every part of the organisation. The team includes researchers, campaigners, policy experts, fundraisers, and communications professionals united by a shared mission to improve mental health for all.
Work-Life Balance
The Mental Health Foundation operates a permanent 4-day, 32-hour working week at full pay. Their own published research demonstrated that the 4-day week boosted staff wellbeing without hurting productivity — living proof of the preventive approach they champion. The Foundation holds 4 Day Week Foundation Gold accreditation.
Staff receive 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 27 after five years. There are three additional closure days between Christmas and New Year, plus up to three wellbeing days per year. This generous time-off package complements the 4-day week beautifully.
