About Mashmob

What is Mashmob?

Mashmob is a Belfast-based 360 digital marketing agency that defines itself as a "Creative Antidote" to the conventional agency model. Founded by Jude Lynch (born 1981), the studio specialises in graphic design, illustration, animation, film & editing, brand and marketing strategy, web design, spacial design and high-value content — all delivered by a single in-house team of "creative professionals, unconventional thinkers" rather than via account managers.

Founder Jude Lynch took a deliberate decision when establishing Mashmob to "eliminate the need for account managers, opting instead for a unique type of designer" — looking for candidates who were "exceptionally organised, had strong people skills, and were adept at project management". Client work includes Dromona's Christmas Campaign Transformation and Propertynews real-estate work.

Where will I work?

Mashmob is a fully-remote company based in Belfast. The team works from home, which is part of the agency's stated commitment to keeping its carbon footprint low — "no big office, no unnecessary printing, and fewer commutes". Mashmob is registered at 37 Queen Street, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

What is the Mashmob team like?

The team is small and senior, comprising Jude Lynch (Founder & Director), Rachel Taggart (Senior Designer & Illustrator), Carla Buchanan (Senior Designer & Illustrator), Stu Cork (Senior Designer) and Zach McMordie (Senior Designer). Designers are intentionally generalists who handle client relationships directly rather than being shielded by account managers.

Founder Jude Lynch: "I love Mashmob. I created it because I believe in an agency where content creators aren't at the bottom of the pile. I wanted an agency that empowers everyone in the team to take charge of their work, to interact with our clients freely, and to voice their opinions openly – and to be praised for it." Mashmob has been recognised as an honorary winner in the culture category of the "If You Could" awards, which "celebrates the work done by organisations across culture, craft and leadership to provide inspiring, supportive and brilliant workplaces".

Work-Life Balance

Mashmob runs the 100:80:100 model: "100% of your pay for 80% of your contracted hours, in return for 100% productivity". The four-day workweek was introduced "not by compressing hours, but as a genuine offer: 'Here, take that day back, go clear your head.' And no, your pay won't change." Days off are at each individual's discretion provided a set number of designers are always available Monday-Friday. Jude Lynch also "mandated that each individual had to take two additional 15 minutes breaks each day, to stretch the legs and clear some of the fuzz from our heads".

Designer Carla Buchanan describes the impact: "When Jude proposed transitioning to a 4-Day Work Week for nothing other than improving our mental well-being, I felt not only incredibly grateful but that a whole new world of possibilities was opening up." Designer Rachel Taggart describes it as "20% less working days and 50% more weekend".
