About LUX - The Food & Drink Agency

What is LUX?

LUX is an Edinburgh-based strategic creative agency working across brand strategy, design, PR, social media and content production. Originally established in 2012 as "LUX - The Food & Drink Agency" with a specialist food-and-drink focus (the studio still operates a dedicated Food & Drink Photography Studio), the agency has broadened to position itself around a single mission: "Create A Difference." LUX's positioning is explicit: "It's embodied in everything we do, combining creativity with responsibility, insight with action, and innovation with integrity."

The agency works with brands and organisations on projects that "shape behaviours, lifestyles and cultures for the better" — building brands for savvy consumers, launching products, and creating campaigns that change behaviour at scale.

Where will I work?

LUX is based at 27 Maritime Street, Edinburgh EH6 6SE. The studio offers hybrid working alongside a dedicated photography studio for food-and-drink work. The team is small but described as having "a mighty mindset — always learning, evolving, and creating a difference where it matters most."

What is the LUX team like?

LUX positions itself as smaller than some agencies but punching above its weight on craft and outcomes. The team blends brand strategists, designers, PR practitioners, social media specialists and content producers under a single integrated team. The approach is described as "built on deep insight, being commercially minded and a genuine commitment to delivering results that matter."

Work-Life Balance

In January 2022, LUX formally implemented an elective 4-day work week — 32 hours, no salary reduction — after a comprehensive 2-year consultation and pilot scheme in partnership with Magenta HR. The Employee Benefits 2022 announcement records the verbatim policy: "All staff at the firm... are able to work a 32-hour week on an elective basis with no reduction in salary." Post-implementation, LUX reported a 24% increase in efficiency and a 30% rise in profitability — outcomes the co-founder framed as "overwhelmingly positive and proof that decreasing working hours optimises performance and increases productivity."

The word "elective" matters: the 4-day pattern is offered to all staff, but the agency runs it as an option rather than a mandate. Employees who want to keep a 5-day pattern can do so.

Perks and Benefits

From the LUX about page and the 2022 Employee Benefits announcement: an elective 32-hour, 4-day work week with no salary reduction (launched January 2022 after a 2-year pilot with Magenta HR); a hybrid working culture based out of the Edinburgh studio at 27 Maritime Street; access to a specialist Food & Drink Photography Studio; and a small-team operating model where everyone has a hand in brand strategy, design, PR, social and content for purpose-led brands. Detailed compensation and benefits packages beyond the 4-day week are negotiated case-by-case and aren't published publicly on the LUX website at the time of writing.
