What is Lely?
Lely is a family-owned Dutch company that builds robots and software for dairy farms, covering milking, feeding, barn cleaning and farm management. Its company page describes the business as "Innovating for farmers since 1948" and reports revenues of EUR 1,014 million in 2025, with 1,500 active patents. The careers page says Lely spends 8% of its revenue on research and development. On 6 November 2026 the company page counted close to 2,700 professionals, among them engineers, IT specialists, technicians, marketeers and farm management advisors. Farmers are served through a separate network of independent Lely Centers, where around 4,600 further employees work worldwide.
Where will I work?
The head office is the Lely Campus at Cornelis van der Lelylaan 1 in Maassluis, South Holland, where production and the headquarters share one building. Of the 55 office-type adverts that state flexible working hours on 6 November 2026, 50 are based on this campus, 3 sit in Lely's cluster for South-East Europe and Turkey in Colturano near Milan, and 2 are with Lely Nederland in Duiven. Most campus adverts describe a hybrid policy of at least three days a week on Campus (three to four campus days for the Head of Lely Academy and at least four for a project-manager role), and a free shuttle bus links the Maassluis metro station to the campus. The Italian cluster describes itself as a "young and enthusiast team" of 44 people split between Colturano and an Istanbul branch office. Lely also hires field technicians, installers and maintenance staff in the Netherlands, France and Poland; those service roles use a different benefits template and are not covered by the hours wording below.
What is the Lely team like?
Lely lists five core values: innovation, passion, respect, progress and honesty. The headquarters page promises "Freedom to organize your own work" and adds that Lely genuinely expects people to bring in new ideas and take initiative. The adverts describe an international work environment in which mechanical, electronics, robotics and software engineers build products together, and in which people choose their own training through the Lely Academy. Engineering is the largest function among the adverts with the hours wording (29 of the 55); the rest include IT, finance, marketing, supply chain, quality and sales or proposition management roles.
Work-Life Balance
Lely's adverts offer flexible hours as a stated benefit: "A healthy work-life balance thanks to our hybrid working policy: you work at least three days a week on Campus, with flexible hours and plenty of opportunity to spend additional time onsite (between 06:00 and 20:00)." The Dutch adverts say the same with "flexibele werktijden" (English: flexible working hours), and the Italian adverts offer "An open work environment with flexible working hours." and the Duiven adverts "Een open werkomgeving met onder andere flexibele werktijden" (English: an open work environment with, among other things, flexible working hours). No core hours are stated: the 06:00 to 20:00 window is when people can spend extra time on site, and the campus gym is open on weekdays from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The same offer appears across engineering, finance, HR, IT, marketing, supply chain, quality and product roles, so it reads as a campus-wide offer rather than one team's template. Leave depends on the template: the campus adverts say "Excellent employment conditions, including up to 8 weeks of vacation per year and a strong pension scheme", the technician adverts say "27 vakantiedagen en 13 roostervrije dagen" (English: 27 vacation days and 13 roster-free days) on a 40-hour week, and the Duiven advert says "40 vrije dagen" (English: 40 free days). Several adverts add that the campus closes for two weeks over Christmas; two Dutch ones say this depends on the role, and none says whether it comes out of the leave.
