What is Laka?
Laka is a UK-founded community-driven insurance company that has set out to rewrite the rules of insurance, starting with cyclists. Verbatim from the careers page: "Our story began in 2017 when we set out to transform bicycle insurance by connecting passionate cyclists all over the UK to form a collective and protect their bikes." The model is called Collective Cover — and the company's rallying mission is to make insurance "something people stand with, not against."
The collective model is what makes Laka different. Verbatim: "For once people come first in insurance by fairly sharing the cost amongst each other. Laka makes sure everything runs smoothly for the collective: from exceptionally fast claims to splitting the cost fairly, guaranteeing a maximum price, and all the other heavy lifting of a regulated insurance business."
