About Kunumi
What is Kunumi?
Kunumi is a Brazilian artificial-intelligence company that builds AI for large clients. It began as a spin-off of the computer science department of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and, according to a June 2024 article in Diário do Comércio, was founded in 2016 by the university's emeritus professor Nívio Ziviani and the entrepreneur and CEO Alberto Colares. Its home page says "Kunumi fosters creativity and openness to wonder" and calls the company a home to "curious minds who have chosen artificial intelligence to express themselves". The adverts add "Somos agentes de mudança que almejam promover uma transformação positiva na sociedade por meio da Inteligência Artificial." (English: we are change agents who want to promote positive change in society through artificial intelligence). The same article reports that Bradesco Holding de Investimentos acquired Kunumi, with the deal completed in May 2024 after central-bank approval, and lists clients such as Braskem, Coca-Cola Brasil, Spotify, Suzano, Unimed BH and Warner, so as of that article this is an AI team inside a large Brazilian bank group.
Where will I work?
Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais is the home base: the article says that "Além de Belo Horizonte, a Kunumi chegou a manter escritórios em São Paulo e também em Roterdã, na Holanda" (English: besides Belo Horizonte, Kunumi at one point also kept offices in São Paulo and Rotterdam). On 6 November 2026 the careers page and the Greenhouse board both listed seven open roles, all marked Brazil, one of them "Remote - Brazil". The adverts' benefit list includes "Trabalho em ambiente remoto com horário flexível" (English: work in a remote environment with flexible hours) and home-office support. The 2024 article said the company had worked from home since the Covid-19 pandemic and expected to bring part of the work back to the office, but no advert states any office days, so ask at interview whether your role is fully remote.
What is the Kunumi team like?
In June 2024 the article reported "Metade dos 80 funcionários que atuam na empresa são engenheiros" (English: half of the 80 employees are engineers). The live adverts cover engineering (a Research Engineer who turns research hypotheses into working artefacts and a Senior Data Scientist), operations (an AI Strategist who bridges technical teams and executives), people (a Community Analyst) and finance (controllership and treasury, and FP&A). The adverts describe the culture as "Na Kunumi, a curiosidade é nossa força motriz" (English: at Kunumi curiosity is our driving force), encourage applicants who do not meet every requirement with "queremos te encorajar a se inscrever mesmo assim" (English: we want to encourage you to apply anyway), and say candidates are considered both for technical qualifications and for how they complement the group. All six vacancies frame the role as "Jobs to Be Done" rather than as a task list, and after applying you receive a confirmation email.
Work-Life Balance
The hours wording sits in the benefits block of every live advert, across engineering, operations, people and finance: "Trabalho em ambiente remoto com horário flexível" (English: work in a remote environment with flexible hours). The same block lists "Kunumi Day mensal - Toda segunda sexta-feira do mês ficamos off" (English: monthly Kunumi Day, every second Friday of the month the company is off) and "Recesso remunerado de final de ano" (English: paid year-end break). The adverts do not state weekly hours, core hours or a number of vacation days, so confirm the contract type, the expected overlap with colleagues and the leave entitlement with the recruiter. The block also lists health programmes for mental, physical and emotional wellbeing and a free Wellhub Gold plan.
