About Happy

What is Happy?

Happy (originally Happy Computers) was founded in 1987 by Henry Stewart, who remains Chief Happiness Officer and is the author of "The Happy Manifesto." Operating from 3rd Floor, Robert Dolan House, 9 Alie Street, London E1 8DE — in the Aldgate area of central London — Happy is a B Corp Certified, 70% employee-owned workplace consultancy and training company.

The business has two interlinked sides: workplace consultancy on leadership, culture, and inclusion; and learning experiences covering leadership, personal development, digital skills (Microsoft, Google Workspace, AI), and apprenticeships. Conference facilities and meeting room hire in central London are also offered. Happy's stated philosophy: "People work best when they feel trusted and empowered."

Where will I work?

Happy operates a hybrid model. The London office at Alie Street near Aldgate hosts in-person training, customer events, conference and meeting-room hire, and team gatherings. Remote work flexibility is arranged with teams based on role requirements.

What is the Happy team like?

Happy's culture is explicit and values-led. Internal values include: "Be inclusive of all and actively put inclusivity at the heart of every decision," helping people "feel good about themselves," "Believe the best and trust others," create customer delight, celebrate mistakes and cultivate innovation, "Make the world a better place," and be innovative and creative. The mission is "for your people to find joy in at least 80% of their work," which Happy actively measures internally.

Recognition for the culture has been substantial: ranked 13th in the 2024 UK's Best Workplaces for Small Businesses, 1st in the 2024 UK's Best Workplaces for Women, Sunday Times 2024 Best Places to Work, Highly Commended for the Best Places to Work for Wellbeing Spotlight, listed as a Learning and Performance Institute Top 30 Provider, API Gold Standard Provider, and Matrix accredited. Awards in 2026 include the Platinum Trusted Service Award 2026 and listings as a 2026 UK Best Workplace.

Work-Life Balance

Happy made its 4-day workweek permanent in January 2023 after a six-month pilot. The 100-80-100 model applies: "you get 100% of the salary for 80% of the time, as long as you maintain 100% productivity." All full-time staff work 32 hours (paid for 37.5) provided equivalent productivity is maintained, following the probation period. Reported results from the trial: 77% of staff maintained the 32-hour week (the remaining 23% added one or two hours), wellbeing improved across the board, Great Place to Work scores rose 5%, and target growth of 10% was achieved with no staffing increase.
