About Groundswell Fund

What is Groundswell Fund?

Groundswell Fund supports U.S. movements for reproductive and social justice by funding intersectional grassroots organizing. As a non-profit (EIN 47-4003615) with a sibling 501(c)(4) organization (Groundswell Action Fund), the fund directs resources to grassroots groups led by women of color — particularly Black, Indigenous, and transgender individuals — recognizing that those closest to the challenges are best positioned to create the solutions.

The fund moves beyond traditional grantmaking by providing long-term, flexible, general operating support that lets partners respond to community needs with agility and creativity. Areas of focus include reproductive justice, racial justice, economic justice, and LGBTQ+ liberation — sectors Groundswell Fund treats as interconnected.

Where will I work?

Groundswell is a completely virtual organization — and has been for many years before the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff work across U.S. time zones; standard business hours generally apply, though early-morning, evening, and weekend work may be needed for organization-wide collaboration, events, or busy times of the year. The careers page notes: "Those with previous remote work experience are preferred, but we also welcome those who are new to remote work."

What is the Groundswell Fund team like?

The team is mission-driven, with a stated commitment to building "a strong identity and thriving culture that is exemplary in the nonprofit world and in the greater landscape of fully remote organizations." Groundswell encourages applications from all qualified individuals — explicit non-discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, marital status, citizenship, disability, and veteran status.

Work-Life Balance

Groundswell is "currently piloting a 4-day, 32-hour work week with the intention of making it a permanent schedule" — verbatim from the careers page. Time off is generous: three weeks of vacation upon hire, a generous holiday schedule, plus a week off during the summer and the last two weeks of December. Staff whose jobs require travel can expect longer hours since travel may fall outside business hours.
