About Green America
What is Green America?
Green America says it "harnesses economic power—the strength of consumers, investors, businesses, and the marketplace—to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society." Its hiring page says it "was founded in 1982 as Co-Op America" and describes itself as "the nation's leading green economy organization". It works through consumer education and mobilization, a Green Business Network that certifies "both environmental and social responsibility", and a Center for Sustainability Solutions that works with large businesses and their supply chains. Its hiring page says its programs focus on "climate change, food, finance, social justice, and community", and that it is "a four-star charity with Charity Navigator".
The four-day week
Green America has worked a four-day week for a long time. Its own article says "Green America has had a four-day work week since 2001; leadership had been considering it and made the decision to adopt it in the aftermath of 9/11, due to the pressures and uncertainties of those times." Its hiring page lists "Four-day workweeks, Monday-Thursday" among its benefits and says "our four-day workweek supports a better work-life balance". The open role on that page reads "full-time (32 hours/week) or part-time (24 hours/week) options available", with a salary of "$65,000 – $75,000 (full time); $49,000 - $56,000 (part-time)": the part-time range is about three quarters of the full-time one, the same ratio as 24 hours to 32. Its human resources director says "Recognizing that everyone on staff has a whole and complete life outside of work has helped us recruit and retain."
Where will I work?
The open role is "Remote within the US", and the page says "applications considered from candidates in the following states", listing 22 states and the District of Columbia. Its benefits list a "Remote work option" and a "Pre-tax Metro benefit card (savings on local DC transportation)" for staff in the District. Its address on its contact page is in Washington, D.C. Applications go by email, with the role named in the subject line.
What is the Green America team like?
Its hiring page says "We have a positive and collaborative organizational culture and great benefits" and lists a "Participatory workplace in which staff have a voice in key organizational issues". It says "Our weekly, in-house tech sessions keep our skills up to date" and that pay transparency "helps decrease the gender and racial wage gaps". Its open role lists its pay range.
