About Grapevine Local Food Marketing

What is Grapevine Local Food Marketing?

Grapevine Local Food Marketing is a fully-remote digital marketing agency dedicated to supporting local farms, food businesses, food hubs, meat processors, markets, retail stores, food-systems non-profits and government entities across the United States and Canada. The agency has served over 100 local food clients since founder Sarah Highlen launched it in 2016 after 17 years in the marketing industry — inspired by helping a friend's farm triple sales.

Services span farm websites, food systems websites, Google Marketing, advertising and design, including specialist support for e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, GrazeCart, Drip and Klaviyo. Case results include Champlin's Sugar Creek Farm tripling grass-fed beef sales within 2 years of website launch, and Ryan Champlin reporting 95% of his bulk beef inventory pre-sold for 2025 — with 7 net new customers attributed to Google/website sources. The team also supports food-systems government work, including the Indiana Grown for Schools Buyer's Guide for the Indiana Department of Health.

Where will I work?

What is the Grapevine team like?

The team is a small, distributed group of marketing specialists deeply connected to local food. Sarah Highlen (Founder; founding member and inaugural president of the NWI Food Council) leads marketing strategy, SEO and website design. Gabriela Muñiz (Senior Graphic Designer; BFA Graphic Design plus a Master's in Information Graphic Design from Barcelona; 16 years of design experience) focuses on websites, GrazeCart, packaging, logo and Squarespace work. Other specialists cover drip email and ads (Natassia Williams), food e-commerce on Shopify/GrazeCart/Klaviyo (Jacy Rittmer, previously founder of Bytable), farm marketing strategy and ecommerce advertising (Brooklyn Maloley), website work in Shopify/Squarespace/Wordpress (Emily Deevers) and food-systems marketing and SEO (Mary Godnick).

Teammate Jacy Rittmer describes the culture as "the genuine emphasis on work-life balance, and the care taken to actually achieve and maintain it by everyone that works here. People can set their own hours and have that respected, without exception". Sister agency Little Bird focuses on restaurant websites.

Work-Life Balance

"We have a 4-day work week, and you get paid for every hour you work (no 50+ hour salaried workweeks)." Most roles range from 24-40 hours per week depending on availability, experience and project mix. Hourly pay for actual hours worked means there's no salaried overtime expectation. Designer Gabi notes "Everyone is encouraged to take time off as needed and rush projects are extremely odd. I can't remember a single work emergency at Grapevine!"
