About Giant Swarm
What is Giant Swarm?
Giant Swarm is a German cloud-native platform company whose mission is "to empower developers around the world to ship great products" (verbatim Careers). The product is an API-driven cloud native platform that allows organizations to provision and scale Kubernetes clusters on-premises and in the cloud on-demand, with managed services running atop. Customers include adidas, Vaillant, and Vodafone (verbatim About Us logos). The company is one of the "first certified AI platforms" — a banner running across the public website.
The origin story is straightforward (from the About Us page): "Back in 2011, we were the founders of Adcloud, processing 10k+ transactions per second and going head-to-head with Google. To keep up, we did something that raised eyebrows at the time — we went all-in on microservices. When existing PaaS solutions couldn't handle our scaling needs, we built our own infrastructure. Plot twist: managing it ate up ⅓ of our engineering time." That bottleneck became the seed for the product: "in 2014, we created Giant Swarm — the comprehensive solution we wished we'd had". The legal entity is Giant Swarm GmbH.
Where will I work?
Fully remote, fully global: "We're a 100% remote, diverse, and growing team, spread across Africa, America, Asia and Europe" (verbatim Careers). The careers page calls out "15 Countries Visited" and tracks ongoing operational stats: "750 Pull Requests / Month" and "3000 Slack Messages / Day". There is no required office — "Work is where work gets done. With team members from across the globe, we're fully remote and fully committed to outcomes over offices."
What is the Giant Swarm team like?
Five aspects describe how Giant Swarm works (verbatim Careers): People first ("we value our team members who create value for our customers"), Remote (outcomes over offices), Self-organization ("Creative work needs freedom and openness. There isn't just ONE way to solve a problem"), Culture of failure ("learning is mandatory and fun at the same time"), Transparency ("we have transparent salaries, almost all communication channels are open, you can attend any meeting you want"). Teams have nicknames (Atlas, Cabbage, Honey Badger, Phoenix, Planeteers, Rocket, Shield, Team Up, Tenet, Founders) — named on the About Us page with photo cards listing each member's role. The 4-stage hiring process emphasizes integrity first: CV → Soft-Skill Evaluation → Technical Interview with a peer → Hiring Presentation where the team makes the decision and "you get the offer the same day".
Work-Life Balance
Verbatim from Careers: "We also offer unlimited vacation days and work time flexibility." Self-organization means colleagues choose their own focus and niche within their team. The transparent-meetings culture means anyone can join any meeting to learn — reducing the FOMO common in distributed companies.
