About Frima Studio

What is Frima Studio?

Frima Studio is a video game developer founded in Québec City in 2003. It began in casual and multiplayer games, bought the mobile studio Hummagade in 2008 and Virtuel Concept, a concept-art and visual-effects studio for cinema, in 2011, and built in-house data analysis from 2018. Today it works three ways: co-development with AAA partners, full development from prototype to live operations, and investment and co-production, making multi-platform games "with a strong focus on long-term player engagement". Projects it lists include Triangle Strategy, Temple Run: Legends, Fortnite and Disciples: Liberation. Frima is a Silver Unreal Engine Service Partner, part of Epic Games' network of vetted studios, and describes its approach as "proven technological expertise with a boutique, hands-on approach".

Where will I work?

At the Québec City head office, the Montréal office, at home, or a mix. Frima's careers page promises "a truly flexible work model: remote, hybrid, or onsite". A current producer posting spells it out — "remote (for residents of the province of Quebec), hybrid, or on-site, the choice is yours" — and an engineering posting offers "100% remote, hybrid, or 100% in-office". Not every role is that open: a current HR posting describes "a flexible hybrid work model" instead. The head office is on rue Victor-Revillon in Québec City and the Montréal office on rue Queen. Staff get free gym access at both locations, collaborative workspaces, on-site chair massages and, the careers page adds, "a slide to move between floors, why not!" Remote staff get $100 a month towards their costs, commuters get part of their travel reimbursed, and postings offer $400 towards ergonomic equipment.

What is the Frima Studio team like?

Frima brings together "hundreds of passionate talents", in its words, and files its openings under programming, production, business intelligence and corporate services. Current openings include senior and lead Unreal programmers, a senior C++ programmer, producers, a lead game designer and an HR adviser, each posted in French and English. Its values are entrepreneurship, boldness, cooperation, kind-heartedness and fun: "We communicate with respect and adapt with openness," it says, and "we strive for excellence while embracing the joy of creating." Teams get regular presentations on projects and studio news, and postings describe "close-knit, caring, and inclusive teams, even remotely". There is a social club in each city, team events to celebrate successes, and snacks, tea and coffee on site.

Work-Life Balance

Frima works a 4.5-day week all year. Its postings promise a "4.5-day workweek year-round (Friday afternoons off)", and the careers page adds "meeting-free Friday mornings to better wrap up the week", so Friday is a short half day without meetings. Frima doesn't publish weekly hours; on a standard eight-hour day, a 4.5-day week is 36 hours. "For us, balance is essential to performance," the careers page says. Time off is generous too: up to seven weeks of vacation a year, a studio-wide break over the holidays, plus sick days and personal days "to use however you like".
