About Forward Action
What is Forward Action?
Forward Action is a 100% employee-owned digital mobilisation agency that runs digital campaigns for progressive organisations. The agency was co-founded by Joe Escalante Coney and Alex Lloyd Hunter, and now operates as "a team of 20 campaigners, fundraisers, and digital organisers" working exclusively with progressive causes. The team's self-described positioning: "Cut through the noise with digital campaigns that demand attention and inspire action."
Client case studies on the site span humanitarian, environmental, anti-violence, and refugee-support causes: Refuge, UK for UNHCR, Surfers Against Sewage, Action Against Hunger, Oxfam GB, and Sense. Services include audience growth, digital strategy, online fundraising, campaign mobilisation, custom digital tool development, and skills training. Recognised as a Disability Confident Committed employer (working toward Level 2) and a Sustainable Travel Employer.
Where will I work?
Forward Action is remote-first across the UK. Per the join-us page: staff "work from anywhere in the UK" with a travel budget provided for those outside London. Decisions are described as "driven by impact, not profit," and the agency emphasises a flat, employee-owned structure where everyone "shares in its success through annual profit bonuses."
What is the Forward Action team like?
The team of 20 brings together campaigners, fundraisers, and digital organisers. Three stated values guide how work happens: "Blending bold ideas with rigorous testing," "Moving quickly to adapt strategies in real time," and "Putting collaboration first to work in a true partnership." Forward Action is a Disability Confident Committed employer with active workplace adjustment support, and a member of Climate Perks.
Work-Life Balance
Forward Action launched a three-month 4-day-week trial in January 2023, moving from "37.5 hours over five days to 30 hours over four" — Monday to Thursday, on full pay. Results from the original trial: more than 75% of staff wanted to continue beyond the trial period, income targets were "slightly exceeded," and staff retention stayed at 100% across the nine months of preparation and trial. Holiday allowance was adjusted from 25 days to 20 days (equivalent weeks off due to the extra weekly day). Leadership took an additional adjustment to 90% of full-time salary only.
