About Flightcontrol
What is Flightcontrol?
Flightcontrol is a YC-backed PaaS that deploys to your own AWS account — combining the developer experience of platforms like Heroku and Vercel with the raw power, reliability and cost profile of native AWS. Co-founded in 2021 by Brandon Bayer (CEO, also creator of the open-source Blitz.js framework) and Mina Abadir (CTO, who has been working with AWS since the days when EC2 and S3 were the entire service catalogue), the company is profitable and now manages over $3 million of AWS resources across customers including Webgears, Spring Studios, Crossmint, Egghead and Lineup Publishing.
The product handles the full deployment surface area: web and GPU servers, network servers (TCP/UDP with multiple ports), private servers, background workers, cron + API-triggered job runners, Lambdas, managed Postgres / MySQL / MariaDB databases via RDS, Redis via ElastiCache, static sites via CloudFront + S3, and S3 buckets. CI/CD and infrastructure provisioning are fully automated — developers connect their AWS account, point at a git repo, define services, and push.
The operating company is Blitz Revolution Inc., backed by a dense network of developer-tooling investors including Matt Billman (Netlify CEO), Randall Kent (Cypress co-founder), Zach Holman (early Github engineering), David Khourshid (Stately CEO), Brian Douglas (OpenSauced CEO), Tracy Lee (This Dot Labs CEO), Thomas Mann (Raycast co-founder) and twelve others.
Where will I work?
Flightcontrol is fully remote. The legal entity is registered in Delaware (New Castle, DE) but the team works from anywhere — there is no central office to commute to.
What is the Flightcontrol team like?
Flightcontrol is a deliberately small, high-craft team. Co-founders Brandon Bayer (CEO) and Mina Abadir (CTO) lead the company; Brandon is a keynote speaker and the product lead, with a background in fullstack consulting and as the author of Blitz.js; Mina has deep enterprise AWS infrastructure experience from before AWS was a household name. Both are family men — Brandon is a husband and aerobatic-airplane pilot, Mina is a husband and father of two girls and a self-described "gamer at heart."
The team operates under a public "Code of Excellence" with nine values, including "Take care of you and yours first, work second," "Have a life outside work," "Eradicate stress" (treated as a serious health concern addressed through systems, exercise and meditation), and "Tell the truth even when it hurts."
Work-Life Balance
The stated company-value pair is "Calm and ambitious" — "We're extremely ambitious and work super hard. But we also deeply value calm and rest." Time off is structured around an Open PTO policy with a mandatory minimum of 4 weeks per year ("you must take at least 4 weeks PTO each year"), plus unlimited sick leave (treated as essential to recovery, not a benefit to be rationed) and menstrual leave that can be taken as PTO with no explanation needed.
Parental leave is a flat 12 weeks paid regardless of role or gender. Employees are encouraged to contribute to open source on company time on anything that benefits the company.
