About Ecosia
What is Ecosia?
Ecosia is "the search engine that plants trees with its ad revenue" — a Berlin-based tech company that channels everyday actions into environmental good. Mission verbatim: "Ecosia is leading the way to a regenerative future through reforestation, empowering local communities, fighting hunger and saving wildlife. We build products that channel everyday actions into environmental good." The legal entity is Ecosia GmbH, registered in Germany (HRB 170873, Amtsgericht Charlottenburg), with Chairman Christian Kroll listed in the imprint.
The company builds search and browser products used by millions; its current Product Designer JD describes the design surface as "our core product surfaces - search, browser, and ai." Ecosia has positioned itself as a Certified B Corporation — the first in Germany — and remains an independent privately-held organization with all revenues directed toward environmental impact.
Where will I work?
From the JD Q&A verbatim: "we are a remote-friendly company with one office in berlin-wedding. people come to the office or work from home per their wishes and/or circumstances. some roles require presence in the office at least from time to time. company language: english." The Berlin office address is verbatim "Gerichtstrasse 23 (courtyard 4), 13347 Berlin, Germany". Staff can work internationally for up to 6 months per year, allowing periodic visits to home countries (one named team member visits family in Colombia, per the careers page testimonial).
What is the Ecosia team like?
From the JD verbatim: "how many people work at ecosia? about 100! our departments include engineering, product, marketing, trees, people, and operations." The Engineering and Product teams "work in a cross-functional set-up, forming 7 teams". Three named team voices on the careers page describe culture: Ina (Design Team Lead) — "over eight years and counting"; Julián (Android Developer) — values flexibility to visit family in Colombia; Zsofia (BI & Data Team Lead) — calls out "2 weekly no-meeting days, a well designed, sustainable office, remote-friendly policies, consolidated core values". A Senior Talent Partner named Sabīne handles initial conversations.
Work-Life Balance
Flexibility is a core promise. Verbatim from the JD: "30 vacation days per year (based on a five-day workweek), designated focus times, and remote work options. (note: not applicable to freelance contracts; different labor laws may apply in other countries.)" Staff can work internationally up to 6 months per year. Two weekly no-meeting days are designated for deep focus. Diversity, equity and inclusion are explicitly built into hiring and culture work.
