What is EBANX?
EBANX is a cross-border payments company that began in Curitiba, Brazil, in 2012. Its about page describes a payment technology that "connects the largest global companies with millions of consumers every day in more than 20 countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia", and its homepage cites "20+ countries and 200+ payment methods" and "+500 global merchants". The page names Alphonse Voigt, Wagner Ruiz and João Del Valle as the three partners behind the idea, and says that with investment from FTV Capital EBANX "became one of the first unicorns in Brazil". The product range covers pay-in and payout, recurring and B2B payments, and fraud and risk management.
Where will I work?
Headquarters are in Curitiba, with an APAC headquarters in Singapore and offices in São Paulo, Mexico City, Montevideo, Johannesburg, Cairo and Shanghai. The adverts open today sit mainly in Curitiba and São Paulo, with others in Singapore, Buenos Aires, Shanghai, Mumbai, London and San Francisco. Office time is set role by role: many Curitiba adverts are labelled On-site, several Product roles are Hybrid and one Buenos Aires product role is Remote. The Singapore business development advert says "We value in-person collaboration and work on a hybrid model; this is not a remote-only role", and the London advert asks for "2 days per week in our London office".
What is the EBANX team like?
EBANX calls its people ebankers. The about page says "We are more than 700 ebankers driven by challenges, creativity, and innovation", and the adverts say "In total, we are 700+ ebankers spread across the world". The careers page lists five values: Knowledge, Big Dreams, Results Orientation, Persistence and Commitment. Technology is described as the core of the business: "There are over 200 tech-focused ebankers teaching, learning, coding, and enabling more than 30 deployments every day", working mainly in PHP, Elixir, Ruby on Rails, Python, JavaScript and Java. The adverts ask for strong English, for example "Advanced English communication skills", because teams work with merchants and colleagues in many countries. The careers page also describes diversity initiatives covering women in leadership, racial equity, LGBTQIA+ employability and people with disabilities.
Work-Life Balance
The careers page lists the benefit "EBANX Flexible: Flexible working hours and birthday day off." Job adverts across engineering, product, legal, compliance, treasury and commercial teams word it more carefully: "Flexible Work Culture: Semi-flexible hours, additional day off on your birthday, and year-end break to support work-life balance." Some adverts describe the shape of the day as "semi-flexible working hours (8 hours/day, Monday to Friday)". No core-hours window is published. The careers page says its benefits "apply to opportunities in Brazil and may vary from country to country", yet the same semi-flexible hours line also appears in adverts for Singapore, Buenos Aires, Shanghai, Mumbai and San Francisco roles. The Senior Software Engineer advert adds "Sustainable work pace: 40 hours a week of an accelerated but not frenetic rhythm - no marathons or sleepless nights". For time off, the adverts mention a "year-end recess between Christmas and New Year’s without affecting your vacation days", but no vacation-day count is stated.
