What is the District of Squamish?
Squamish is the municipal government of a fast-growing coastal community in British Columbia, set between Howe Sound and the Coast Mountains on the Sea-to-Sky corridor about halfway between Vancouver and Whistler. It is located in the unceded traditional territory of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), and the District opens its job postings by offering gratitude to the Skwxwú7mesh People who have lived on these lands since time immemorial. The town brands itself "Hardwired for Adventure", and the District delivers the services that sit behind that: finance, planning and development, engineering and operations, recreation facilities and programmes, bylaw, IT, and civilian support to the local RCMP detachment.
Where will I work?
On site in Squamish. Municipal Hall is at 37955 Second Avenue, with operations, recreation and facility staff spread across District sites. This is in-person local-government work.
What is the District of Squamish team like?

Every posting states the exact hourly rate rather than a band.
Work-Life Balance
Letter of Understanding #6 to the CUPE 2269 agreement is titled "Nine-day Fortnight" and says "the parties agree to a nine-day fortnight for all Regular Full-time Schedule B Employees", working "an average of 70 hours every two (2) weeks". The District's live adverts carry the same thing: the Accounts Payable Coordinator posting states "Hours of Work: 70 hours bi-weekly, Monday to Friday ... fortnight schedule". Seventy hours across nine days is an average 35-hour week at full pay, with a day off every second week.
Employees may choose to opt out, which means the fortnight is the default rather than something you apply for. Scope is real but bounded: the LOU covers regular full-time Schedule B staff across Municipal Hall, operations, recreation, IT, Victim Services and RCMP civilian roles, while casual, on-call and regular part-time positions sit outside it, and some operational recreation roles run a 40-hour four-day shift pattern instead.
