About Demaco
What is Demaco?
Demaco Holland B.V. is a specialist Dutch engineering firm building vacuum-insulated cryogenic infrastructures that transport and apply industrial gases at extreme low temperatures — "between -160 and -271 ℃." The company traces its roots to 1960, when "Theo Dekker, an entrepreneur from Waarland, decided to start his own company," originally focused on construction and agricultural machinery before pivoting to cryogenics in 1985.
Today Demaco serves "sectors as the food industry, pharmaceuticals, aerospace and medical technology" with custom systems for liquefied gases (nitrogen, helium, hydrogen). Since 2024, Demaco has been part of OPW Clean Energy Solutions — a business unit of OPW under the international Dover Corporation® (which has "more than 2,000 employees, production activities in North America, Europe and China"). The company collaborates with research institutes including CERN, DESY, and FERMILAB.
Where will I work?
Demaco's HQ is at Oester 2, 1723HW Noord-Scharwoude, near Alkmaar in the Netherlands. The site is "a new and impressive head office" opened in 2000 to house the entire production team under one roof. Worldwide agents are based in France, Spain, China, and Malaysia, supporting international projects. Roles are primarily onsite, with a clean private workplace in the production hall.
What is the Demaco team like?
Demaco runs "four specialised business units: Systems, Plants, Science and Vacuum Technology." Internally the culture is described as a "betrokken familiecultuur" (engaged family culture) — "warm, persoonlijk en loyaal." Co-owners since 2009 are Ronald Dekker (son of founder Theo) and Rob Groenendijk.
Employee voices on the careers page emphasise trust and autonomy. Project Manager Wim Blonk says: "If you do your work well, it's good. Working from home when needed? No problem. They really think with you here. It's a nice, trusted environment where you feel at ease. It remains a family business."
Work-Life Balance
Demaco offers around 40 paid days off per year (via Dutch CAO Metalektro provisions plus role-based extras). Employees can "set their own hours in mutual coordination" — focus is on quality of work, not time at the desk. Some roles offer the option of a 32-hour week (4-day work week); details are role-dependent and discussed with hiring managers.
