What is the City of Mission?
Mission is a city of roughly 41,500 people on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the Fraser River Valley in British Columbia — 70 kilometres east of Vancouver and 20 kilometres north of the United States border. It sits on the unceded, ancestral and shared territory of the Stó:lō Peoples, specifically the Leq'á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq'éwlets and Katzie traditional territories. The City describes itself as part of a broader metropolitan area that still keeps its distinct, welcoming small-town character, and it is one of the faster-growing communities in the Lower Mainland. Its municipal government runs the full range of local services: finance and procurement, planning and development, parks, recreation and culture, engineering and public works, and civilian support to the local RCMP detachment.

On site in Mission. This is in-person public service — city hall, the leisure centre, works yards and the RCMP detachment — not remote work.
What is the City of Mission team like?
A unionised municipal workforce. Inside staff belong to CUPE Local 1267, whose collective agreement is where the schedule below is written down, and the City is unusually transparent about pay: every job it advertises prints the exact hourly rate for the position rather than a band or a "competitive salary" line.
Work-Life Balance
Mission's inside adverts state the schedule in the posting itself: the hours of work are "Monday to Friday ... on a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for nine days and one day off every two weeks)". That matches CUPE 1267 Article 12.1, which sets full-time Schedule 'A' work at "seventy (70) hours for each two (2) week period comprised of eight (8) seven and three quarter (7¾) hour days ... and one (1) eight (8) hour day". Seventy hours across nine days keeps the full 35-hour average week and full pay; the same hours are redistributed into nine slightly longer days, so every second week includes a day off. It is a compressed fortnight rather than a cut in hours — the gain is the regular long weekend.
Schedules do vary by role. Some City positions run a four-day Tuesday-to-Friday week instead, and recreation and seasonal roles work evening and weekend shifts.
