About Camloc Motion Control
What is Camloc Motion Control?
Camloc Motion Control is a Leicester-based UK manufacturer of bespoke gas springs, dampers and motion-control solutions, in business for over 30 years and ISO 9001:2015 accredited. From /uk/about-us/our-business: "Camloc Motion Control is an ISO 9001:2015 accredited UK manufacturer based in Leicester and we have been designing and manufacturing bespoke motion control solutions for over 30 years."
The firm specialises in B2B mid-to-low-volume engineering — "you won't be left with a standard solution, but one that is tailored to your brief with your unique situation in mind." Camloc's products are used across rail, aerospace, military and signage, "from operating tables to the protection systems used in armoured vehicles".
Mission (verbatim): "Camloc combines creativity with engineering excellence to overcome challenges in how to lift, lower and control." Values: Integrity / Collaboration / Creativity / Excelling.
The history is rich — the site at 15 New Star Road was opened in 1979 by Rexnord Corporation to make Camloc quarter-turn fasteners. After a chain of acquisitions (Fairchild 1987 → Arvin 2000 → Arvin Meritor 2002 → private American 2011), a 2016 management buy-out by Julie Barker and Matt Warne saw Camloc become a British-owned business for the first time in its history.
Where will I work?
Camloc operates from a single head office and manufacturing site: 15 New Star Road, Leicester LE4 9JD, United Kingdom. Roles are on-site at the Leicester factory and office. Phone: +44 (0)116 274 3600.
What is the Camloc team like?
From /uk/about-us/our-people: "To date, we employ 38 people and between us, we have 410 years of combined industry experience. This is one of the reasons that we're confident we can get your project off the ground."
"Our longest serving team member has been with us for 45 years and the average length of service is 12 years. To this day, 8 of our talented team have been with us for over 20 years so it's safe to say our team sticks with us through thick and thin."
The leadership team comprises two Joint Managing Directors: Julie Barker (Finance and Sales, joined 2009) and Matt Warne (Engineering, Operations and Marketing, joined 2011, MEng Business Management). The team spans Sales, Engineering, Design, Operations, Finance and Office functions, with apprentices in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering coming through.
Matt Warne on the culture (verbatim /our-values): "Our values are the expression of what it means to 'be Camloc' and what it is that makes Camloc special. A team spirit and culture doesn't come by accident and nor does the length of service our people to the bring to the business. It's because of the values we live by that makes Camloc what it is, and the pride our team takes in doing what they do each day."
Work-Life Balance
Camloc moved to a permanent 4-day working week on 3 March 2025 and was awarded the 4 Day Week Foundation Silver Standard accreditation. From the company's own blog post (07/03/2025, /us/blog/camloc-four-day-week-customer-service-wellbeing/, verbatim):
"As of 3rd March 2025, Camloc's business hours will be 8am to 5.15pm, from Monday to Thursday."
"By achieving the Silver Standard accreditation, it means we now offer our employees a permanent 35 hour (or less) four-day week, with a reduction of hours and no loss of pay."
Matt Warne, MD: "As a manufacturing company committed to customer service, quality and continuous improvement, we believe the transition to a four-day working week will benefit both the well-being of our team and the long-term performance of our business. By allowing our team more time to rest and recharge, we're creating a working environment that promotes focus, creativity and job satisfaction – all the elements essential in delivering the high standards of customer service we strive for. Studies demonstrate that a well-rested workforce is more productive, engaged and innovative."
Camloc is one of the few "traditional" UK manufacturers signed up to a permanent 4-day week. The change also reduces environmental impact through less commuting and reduced factory-floor and office operations.
