About Black & White Zebra
What is Black & White Zebra?
Black & White Zebra, or BWZ, is "a rapidly growing, independent media tech company headquartered in Vancouver". It is "building a portfolio of influential digital media brands, products, and strategic partnerships that help people succeed in their work, discover new methods and tools, and make better purchasing decisions." BWZ started in 2012 as The Digital Project Manager blog and now runs more than 15 online publications and communities for professionals, among them People Managing People, The CPO Club, The CTO Club, The CMO Club, The CFO Club, The CX Lead, The Retail Exec and The Lead Pastor. It also runs Software Select and Crozdesk, which match businesses with software, plus Revleads, brand-safe advertising for B2B SaaS brands, and Revstacks, an adtech product for publishers. Its about page counts more than 60,000 people in its communities and 750,000 leads generated a year, and says 7% of profits go to charity. It ranked No. 467 on Deloitte's 2025 Technology Fast 500, with 141% growth.
Where will I work?
Usually from home. "We're remote-first and boast team members spread across 11 different time zones," the careers page says. "We have our HQ in Vancouver, Canada with office space for those locally based or if you fancy popping in!" In October 2026 its Lever board lists one full-time role: an off-page SEO manager, remote in Canada (listed for Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and Victoria). The role "is available as either a remote or hybrid position (depending on location), with an annual salary in the range of $80,000 to $100,000 CAD", and full-time staff are also eligible for a discretionary bonus. The careers page also takes general applications.
What is the Black & White Zebra team like?
An international team of "70+ creators, strategists, and innovators", BWZ says it combines "the agility of a startup with the creativity of an agency and the diversity of a global company." Its values are to be impactful, iterative, adaptable and fun ("We value done over perfect"), and the fun value says "a sustainable career is one that sustains your spirit" and that "work-life balance is a poor substitute for life-giving work." "Feedback is built into our routines," the careers page says, and the team makes time for "fun team events and hack days where we jam on interesting side projects". Its 2026 press release describes company-wide town halls, a weekly internal newsletter and "annual gatherings that bring the distributed team together in person"; the 2025 company summit was "An all-expenses-paid trip to Mexico." In 2026 BWZ was named one of Canada's Top Small & Medium Employers for the fourth time, and it is also listed among BC's Top Employers. One team member describes the culture as "transparent, realistic, humane, and asynchronous."
Work-Life Balance
The careers page offers "4 weeks of paid vacation right from the start, we encourage you to take time off and use it all." With British Columbia's 11 statutory holidays, that is 20 + 11 = 31 days a year. Hours are flexible: the careers page describes "A flexible schedule that enables you to work as long as you need to, when you need to, to hit your goals and fulfill your responsibilities", and the 2026 press release lists "flexible working aligned to local time zones". On top of that, "All team members are given up to two paid days each year to volunteer with local organizations." Weekly hours are not published.
