Who We Are

B Lab is a visionary nonprofit organization established in 2006 that pioneered the global movement to use business as a force for good.

We aim to transform the economic system to create a more inclusive, equitable, and regenerative environment. We certify B Corporations ('B Corps'), which are companies that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability.

Our network extends globally, with a presence in numerous countries across six continents. We actively influence economic change by developing standards, tools, and initiatives to support B Corps and other businesses aiming to make a positive impact. Through our work, we're building a community of thousands of certified companies and millions of workers committed to stakeholder capitalism.

What We Do

B Lab's core function is to administer the B Impact Assessment, a comprehensive evaluation tool that measures a company's impact on its workers, customers, community, and environment. Companies must score at least 80 out of 200 to qualify for B Corp Certification and recertify every three years to maintain their status.

We also advocate for policy changes and provide various programs and tools to help businesses measure and manage their impact. This includes initiatives like the SDG Action Manager, which aligns companies' practices with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, we work with policymakers to advance benefit corporation legislation, enabling businesses to legally consider stakeholder interests in their decision-making.
