About Act Now Coalition
What is Act Now Coalition?
Act Now is a US-based nonprofit that "build[s] innovative solutions for impact," developing data-driven software products that advance the public good. The current home page describes the organisation as jointly administered by two registered entities: "Act Now Coalition (501c3) and The Act Now Project (501c4)." The Coalition grew out of the Covid Act Now project, founded in March 2020 by Max Henderson (formerly Google), Igor Kofman (formerly Dropbox), Zachary Rosen and Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. The Covid Act Now dashboard provided real-time COVID metrics for every U.S. state, 380+ metros and 3,100+ counties through the pandemic, and the team has since expanded into other civic and public-health data products.
Where will I work?
The live home page features one current project, U.S. Voters Abroad, described verbatim as: "The Center for U.S. Voters Abroad and the Center for U.S. Voters Abroad Foundation are non-profit, non-partisan organizations that help eligible U.S. citizens register to vote an absentee ballot regardless of where they're located in the world." The Coalition itself is remote-first: prior recruitment listings have described the team as fully distributed across the United States and Canada, working asynchronously rather than from a central office.
What is the Act Now Coalition team like?
The live home page describes the group as "a team of passionate problem solvers from different backgrounds" and notes a multidisciplinary mix of engineering, design, policy and media expertise — a signature inherited from the original Covid Act Now collaboration that spanned former Google and Dropbox engineers, public-health researchers, and journalists. The Coalition's prior public hiring posts described senior product, engineering and editorial roles, indicating a team mature enough to take new initiatives from research through to production-grade data products.
Work-Life Balance
The Coalition is well known in the four-day-week community for an operating rhythm of Monday–Thursday work with Friday off. The live home page is sparse on day-to-day specifics — and explicitly notes that the team is "not actively looking to grow at the moment, but are always open to new people, pitches, and collaborations" — so candidates exploring a future role should confirm hours and schedule details directly via [email protected].
Perks and Benefits
With the live site currently not advertising specific role openings, the most authoritative source for benefits is any new posting when it appears or direct conversation with the Coalition. The recurring elements across prior public listings have been: 4-day week (Monday–Thursday), unlimited PTO with company holidays, fully remote across US and Canada, comprehensive health insurance, and regular team retreats — but each role's exact package should be confirmed at application stage.
