About ABA Advice
What is ABA Advice?
ABA Advice — full name ABA Advice Beyond Accounting — is an Australian accounting and business-advisory firm on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, serving clients locally and across Australia. Founded in 2011 by Director Matthew van Mourik, it works "as an extension of your team," combining everyday compliance with proactive, higher-level advice for owner-managed businesses. Its services span management accounting, business advisory, tax accounting, business compliance, self-managed superannuation (SMSF) advice and bookkeeping.
The practice is organised around five stated values — Engagement, Dependability, Integrity, Excellence and Community — and positions itself as a modern, advisory-led firm rather than a traditional compliance shop.
Where will I work?
ABA Advice is based at the K1 Building in Birtinya (Level 3, 17/16 Innovation Parkway, Birtinya QLD 4575), in the heart of the Sunshine Coast's health and innovation precinct. Alongside the office it offers remote opportunities and flexible work hours. Under its four-day-week model, staff are present at least three days between Monday and Thursday, and the whole team has Fridays off.
What is the ABA Advice team like?
The practice has around 25 people — accountants, bookkeepers, client advisors and support staff. Founder Matthew van Mourik now mentors the leadership team while focusing on complex advisory work. ABA's four-day week has been profiled by Acuity, the magazine of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand, as an early Australian adoption of the model through the 4 Day Week Global programme — a notable step for a regional accounting firm.
Work-Life Balance
ABA Advice's headline policy is a four-day work week with flexible hours; its own site lists "4 day work week and flexible work hours." According to Acuity, all staff take Fridays off, with the arrangement structured around meeting monthly targets (roughly 29 billable hours a week). The firm reports that since moving to the four-day week, its personal-leave, sick-leave and mental-health-service usage have all fallen while productivity has held.
