About 448 Studio

What is 448 Studio?

448 Studio Ltd is a Scotland-based company founded in 2017 by Daniel Marrable. Originally a social media training and consultancy agency supporting public-sector and higher-education clients, the company has pivoted to focus on its events platform Forumm — "events for the bold, weird and brilliant." Forumm began life inside 448 Studio as the platform used to run All Day All Night, a 24-hour global online conference for the education sector, and has grown into the company's primary product. The 448 Studio brand remains as the legal parent.

Forumm helps organisations create events that bring people together, spark conversations, and actually achieve what they set out to do. The platform handles registrations, ticketing, attendee communication, instant payouts, branded event pages, and email delivery. Daniel Marrable brings world-class event expertise — he has managed events at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, Invictus Games and European Games — and Forumm aims to bring that experience to every organisation it works with. The team is "Scottish-built, founder-led, and faster on our feet than the giants."

Where will I work?

448 Studio is fully remote. The team is based in 4 different countries, across different timezones, with members 100s of miles apart even within the same country. The registered Scottish address is in Houston, Johnstone (PA6 7HJ) — about 20 minutes outside Glasgow. Additional team locations include Watford (UK) and Lisbon (Portugal). Internally, the team runs "asynchronous-first" workflows with focused, agenda-led meetings.

What is the 448 Studio team like?

The team is small and founder-led: Daniel Marrable (Cofounder & CEO), Dr Hilary Young (Cofounder & COO), and Paul Pirie (Senior Developer). Dan brings event-operations expertise from international sports events; Hilary has 15+ years developing and managing academic and cultural-heritage digital projects, including overseeing the academic-support programme and social-media workshops at 448 Studio; Paul leads platform development with a focus on "what event organisers actually need."

As Marrable says: "You work with real people who genuinely care." And Hilary "ensures nothing falls through the cracks and provides the kind of thoughtful support that makes the difference between a stressful event and a successful one."

Work-Life Balance

448 Studio launched a 4-day work week in February 2022 — initially as a three-month trial, and made permanent thereafter. The model is 100-80-100: "100% of salary, 80% of time, 100% productivity." All full-time staff take every Friday off. Bank holidays are preserved alongside the 4-day pattern (staff don't lose holiday entitlement to fund the schedule), and part-time employees already working four days are upgraded to full-time. Meetings are explicitly compressed under the model — "30 mins = 20 mins, 60 mins = 40 mins" — and agenda-led.

Project Manager Murray Beattie wrote of the first 4DW week: "A 4-day work week gives me the perfect work-life balance and allows me to elevate my productivity to a whole new level. Being able to spend Friday how I want means that I'm more refreshed and ready to go come Monday morning!" Executive Assistant Calum Brown: "The four-day work week allows me to focus on my physical/mental health and social life."
