As Sr Inspector I at Phillips 66, you will help safeguard the mechanical integrity and safe, reliable operation of fixed equipment across the refinery. You’ll conduct inspections, analyze equipment condition data, and partner with operations and maintenance to plan and prioritize repairs and turnarounds. This is a key role in maintaining compliance with industry codes and Phillips 66 standards while supporting continuous improvement in how we care for critical equipment.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead day-to-day inspection activities for fixed equipment (piping, pressure vessels, tanks, heaters, boilers, exchangers, valves, and relief devices) in your assigned area to ensure mechanical integrity and safe operation.
  • Conduct and/or manage inspections and nondestructive examination (NDE) in line with approved inspection plans, document results in inspection databases, and maintain accurate equipment history.
  • Analyze inspection and operating data (e.g., corrosion rates, remaining life, fitness-for-service assessments, criticality, and risk-based inspection outputs) to identify risks and recommend repair, replacement, or monitoring strategies.
  • Support planning and execution of maintenance and turnaround work by developing repair plans, integrating risk-based inspection and reliability inputs, and providing field inspection coverage.
  • Help design, implement, and sustain inspection and compliance programs that meet applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements, escalating issues and non-compliance as needed.
  • Prepare clear reports and recommendations for operations, maintenance, and leadership, and provide specialist advice on inspection findings and equipment condition.
  • Coordinate and provide day-to-day guidance to contract inspectors and other resources supporting routine maintenance and turnarounds, including evaluating the quality of inspection work.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of inspection processes, tools, and standards, and maintain your technical expertise through training, certification, and knowledge of evolving codes and best practices.

What You’ll Bring – Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2 or more years of relevant working experience as an Inspector in refining, petrochemical, or similar industry
  • API-510 Pressure Vessel Inspector and API-570 Piping Inspector certifications
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, SAP,and PCMS
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to comply with the following:
    • Travel up to 5%
    • Operate company vehicle on site premises and / or public roads up to 25%
    • Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform occasional on-call duties
    • Transport articles up to 50 pounds
    • Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet
    • Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions
    • Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment
    • Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

What Makes You Stand Out – Preferred

  • Associate’s Degree or trade certification
  • Level II certification in PT, MT, UT-t, and RT-i nondestructive examination methods
  • Experience supporting inspection scope development and execution for turnarounds and major maintenance events
  • API-653 Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector certification
  • API-571 Damage Mechanisms endorsement
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential
  • Experience with mechanical integrity and risk-based inspection programs, including tools such as PCMS
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NBIC, API-510, API-570, API-653, and API-579

Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $141,300 - $172,700.

The Lake Charles Refinery is located in Westlake, Louisiana. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. Facilities also include a specialty coker and calciner. The refinery processes a mixture of light to heavy, low- and high sulfur and low- and high-acid crude oils. It receives domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil through truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals, including the Beaumont and Clifton Ridge terminals and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline. Lake Charles produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include off-road diesel, home heating oil, feedstock for our Excel Paralubes joint venture, specialty graphite petroleum coke and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed in the southeastern and eastern United States by truck, rail car, barge or pipelines and exported to Latin America and West Africa.
