About the Match Group AI ML Team Our ML Team consists of ML Engineers who apply AI/ML technologies to various Match Group services. Our work begins by identifying and defining problems that arise during the actual product development and operation lifecycle. We develop or reproduce State-of-the-Art (SotA) models best suited for solving these problems and deploy the finished models into mobile and server environments reliably and efficiently. We then build an AI Flywheel for our services through continuous monitoring and improvement. In this process, we collaborate closely with various specialized organizationsโ€”including backend/frontend/DevOps engineers, data analysts, and PMsโ€”to create AI experiences that make a real impact on users. Some of our work is shared externally through research papers or open-source code. When building ML models for product use, existing research is often insufficient. To bridge these gaps, project participants collaborate to refine the meaningful aspects of their research and, whenever possible, release the results along with the code. As a result, we have achieved approximately 20 external research accomplishments to date, including the following:

  • 2023 TiDAL: Active Learning based on Model Behavior in Efficient Training Processes, published at ICCV 2023
  • 2023 Research on determining thresholds to satisfy multiple classification criteria simultaneously in moderation environments, published at WSDM 2023
  • 2022 Research on increasing semantic diversity in dialogue generation, published at EMNLP 2022
  • 2022 Method for effective learning in environments with high label noise, published at ECCV 2022
  • 2022 Chatbot research mimicking a target character using only a few utterances, published at NAACL 2022
  • 2022 Research on improving performance in dialogue generation models using examples, presented at ACL 2022 Workshop
  • 2022 Research on distillation technology for audio classification in mobile environments, published at ICASSP

To ensure ML research progresses effectively, we have well-equipped infrastructure for deep learning training. We possess our own deep learning cluster (totaling 160 A100 GPUs and 40 H100 GPUs) to allow ML engineers to conduct model development and experiments sufficiently. Additionally, we build and operate our own data pipelines, including data collection and preprocessing, using cloud services. We also work alongside various software engineers (backend/frontend/DevOps/MLSE) who help bring ML models to production.

Responsibilities ML Engineers at Match Group AI are both scientists who research and apply the latest AI/ML technologies and engineers who design and optimize models and systems for real-world service environments. Our organization handles a variety of tasks, and we are looking for someone who can proficiently perform at least one of the following:

  • Solve various business problems arising from products serviced by Match Group. This involves understanding the background, goals, and constraints of a business problem, redefining it as a proper AI/ML problem, and finding the best methodology to solve it.
  • Participate in the development of new products and features for Match Group. This involves utilizing AI/ML technologies to quickly and correctly implement products and features, from ideation and prototyping to reaching actual users.
  • Conduct advanced research and development on large language models and multimodal models. This involves using Match Group's data and the latest technologies to create models specialized for the dating domain and finding ways to apply them to various areas of the product.

To perform these tasks, we expect a Senior ML Engineer to have a solid foundation in AI/ML and the ability to lead the team's technical decision-making based on rapid acquisition of the latest technologies. Based on these capabilities, you will primarily lead the following technical topics:

  • Methods for correctly handling data with various modalities, including text, images, and event logs, and methods for correctly resolving bias and noise in collected data.
  • Defining evaluation metrics aligned with product goals and optimal model training methods to achieve those goals.
  • Methods for on-device and large-scale model inference optimization, considering engineering constraints and infrastructure environments.

Requirements

  • Possess a deep understanding of the AI/ML domain as a whole and in-depth knowledge of at least one specific domain, with a PhD in a related field, 5+ years of industrial project experience, or equivalent capabilities.
  • Ability to define ambiguous business or technical problems as proper AI/ML problems and solve them based on rational technical decision-making.
  • Ability to quickly perform development using open-source frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, JAX, and general Python, and manage high-quality code for collaboration and maintenance.
  • Ability to design stable ML training pipelines and deployment processes.
  • Ability to continuously explore and share new technologies, helping the team maintain a high level of AI/ML technical competitiveness.
  • Ability to lead technical decision-making in AI projects involving two or more ML Engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders from various job functions.
  • Fluent in Korean and capable of basic communication in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of publications in top-tier AI/ML conferences and journals (NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, CVPR, ICCV/ECCV, KDD, etc.) or awards in related competitions.
  • Experience leading the entire process of training LLMs or models of similar scale and achieving results.
  • Extensive software development experience and engineering skills required for architecture/system design.
  • Ability to plan A/B test experiments, correctly define target KPIs, and perform professional SQL-based data analysis.
  • Ability to uncover meaningful insights from data using causal analysis and other statistical techniques and apply them correctly to decision-making.
  • Experience leading engineering teams.
  • Experience as a PO/PM or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in real-time business communication in English.
