Senior Data Engineer

5 day weekGenerous PTOOnsite · Gothenburg, Sweden

Let’s shape the future together

We’re shaping our business around people. While our cars embrace leading-edge technologies, we never employ technology for its own sake. Quite the opposite. Instead, our focus is on adapting technology to benefit people. This philosophy extends to the sales and customer experience we aim to deliver. Do you want to be a part of creating the exciting solutions of tomorrow’s mobility? Then look no further, join us.

Let's introduce ourselves

You will join our Battery Field Data Analytics team, which sits at the heart of Volvo Cars’ electrification journey. We design propulsion batteries for both plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles and connect to them wirelessly. Mastering battery data is therefore critical to delivering safe, efficient, and intelligent electric cars. If you are passionate about structuring data and building efficient data pipelines, you will thrive in our growing Field Data Analytics team. We develop end-to-end analytical solutions and operate at the intersection of battery engineering, large-scale data processing, and advanced AI.

What you'll do

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design, build, and continuously enhance scalable data pipelines that support analytics, dashboards, and machine learning models used in the development of next-generation battery systems and vehicle quality improvements. Working primarily with Python and PySpark in Databricks, alongside Snowflake, you will ensure that data is reliable, well modelled, and production ready, with a strong focus on data quality, testing, and observability. You will collaborate closely with data scientists, platform engineers, and ML engineers to establish robust data foundations that enable experimentation, model training, and the operationalization of machine learning solutions, while also contributing to architectural decisions and strengthening engineering practices across our data community.

What you'll bring

You have some years of experience as a Data Engineer in modern cloud data platforms or advanced analytics environments, complemented by a master’s degree in engineering, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.

Skills required for the role:

•    Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL

•    Experience with big data technologies, including PySpark and Ray

•    Strong understanding of ETL processes and streaming data architectures

•    Solid knowledge of database design principles

•    Hands-on experience with data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Azure Data Factory

•    Experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure

You share our passion for vehicle electrification and enjoy being part of a team. Your analytic ability, creativity and interaction with different teams create a great atmosphere for innovative solutions. You have conceptual thinking, not afraid of taking vital actions when required.

It is also beneficial if you also have skills in any of the areas below:

•    Version control tools for collaborative development (Git)

•    DevOps tools such as Kubernetes and Docker

•    Experience with CI/CD tools such as Github Actions and ArgoCD

•    AI/Machine learning

•    BI tools like Dash, Power BI, Tableau or similar
