The Fitzhugh Mullan Institute for Health Workforce Equity (GWMI), in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University, is seeking a Senior Communications Associate for the Social Mission Alliance (SMA) - a growing national movement to address health equity through health professions education and training.
The mission of the SMA is to promote social mission in health professions education by promoting networking among learners, teachers, community leaders, health policymakers, and their organizations to advance equity in education, research, service, and policy. The SMA provides networking opportunities through its national conference, Social Mission Metrics Initiative, For Us All advocacy campaign, Health Justice Fellowship program, and Health Workforce Diversity Initiative (SENTRY and Diversity Tracker).

Job Duties:
- Identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating communication strategies, content, workflows, and systems.
- Working with SMA and GWMI project leads to implement a communications strategy that advances visibility and outreach of all initiatives.
- Overseeing, implementing and reporting on internal and external communications with key stakeholders.
- Leading social media content creation in collaboration with the For Us All campaign team. Specifically creating short-form multimedia posts from content created via webinars, newsletters, blog posts, and social media spotlights.
- Creating a unified social media aesthetic for Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Video editing for webinars and interviews of coalition partners to be added to the movement and resource libraries.
- Provide strategic outreach support to the Social Mission Metrics Initiative.
- Serving as a strategic communications advisor, partnering with faculty and leadership to develop internal and external content, such as conference outreach, academic papers, marketing materials, press releases, and digital resources for dissemination across various communications channels. Procure and liaise with external contractors for design and digital media production needs. Coordinating messaging and communications efforts with SMA’s internal team and broader network.
- Coordinating with SMA and GWMI team members to proactively develop communications plans, outlining timelines, deliverables, and key performance indicators, to support various Institute projects.
- Assuming responsibility for content distribution across SMA and GWMI social media accounts and website.
- Serving as the primary point of contact with media and work with the Media Relations team at George Washington University on external communications.
