The Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences is seeking a candidate to work as a full-time Research Associate under the supervision of Dr. Loretta DiPietro.
The Project will focus on the effects of the 11th Street Bridge Park Project on community health in DC Wards 6, 7, and 8. This position will be responsible for overseeing the workflow of the project. This individual will assist the study investigators with recruitment efforts, enrollment and consenting participants. They will also assist in data collection, data entry, data management and IRB approvals/renewals. They will also assist Drs. DiPietro and Gabby Hendricks with the training of all research assistants associated with this project. This training involves performing environmental audits, securing secondary data sources, and performing interviews. This individual will also contribute to the preparation of academic manuscripts, posters, and presentations. They will work closely with Dr. DiPietro and the other investigators to ensure the fidelity and integrity of the project. A commitment to working in multidisciplinary teams and developing and maintaining positive relationships with co-workers and community collaborators is essential.
This position involves conducting the above-described research activities, under general guidance from the Principal Investigator, Dr. Loretta DiPietro. This position reports to the Principal Investigator. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
The ideal candidate will have prior research experience related to the built environment and community health, experience collecting and analyzing research data, good oral and written communication skills, and an interest in physical activity, nutrition, and public health. A minimum of a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) degree is required. Proficiency in word processing and data management software is expected.
The selected candidate will contribute to research by:
- Assisting with recruiting, consenting, and enrolling study participants
- Developing study databases and standard operating procedures
- Assisting with cross-disciplinary data collection, data entry, and data management
- Assist with performing environmental audits and securing secondary data sources
- Co-authoring (or lead authoring) scientific presentations, abstracts, and/or manuscripts
- Assessing and ensuring data quality
- Additional research administration tasks
The selected candidate will support the Principal Investigator by:
- Supporting ethical review board (IRB) applications and approvals
- Ensure project compliance with university and sponsor policies
- Attend monthly project meeting with Research Support Team
- Maintaining positive relationships with community collaborators
- Organizing meetings with research partners
- Other administrative duties, as needed
