Job Description

As a Game Director at Ubisoft Montreal, you will transform a creative vision into a cohesive and engaging gaming experience. You will guide the design team by providing clear direction, while fostering experimentation, iteration, and collaboration. You will maintain an overview of progression, pacing, balance, and overall game quality to ensure a fun experience aligned with the defined vision.

What you will do:

  • Collaborate with creative direction and the leadership team to define the game's vision and ensure overall alignment.
  • Develop and communicate a clear game design vision throughout production.
  • Mentor and support game designers in creating game mechanics, progression systems, combat systems, artificial intelligence behaviors, and other key features.
  • Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to achieve a high level of quality.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistency between design, technical, artistic, and narrative elements.
  • Discuss budgets and timelines with production and communicate progress and milestones to stakeholders.
  • Adapt design direction based on technical constraints, production realities, and playtest results.
  • Ensure post-launch feature tracking, analyze data, and adjust the game to improve the experience.
  • Stay informed of market trends and technological advances to evolve practices and share them with other studios.

Qualifications

  • Strong expertise in video game design and leadership of design teams.
  • Excellent understanding of game engines such as Unity or Unreal, as well as their constraints.
  • Ability to communicate a vision, make informed decisions, and mobilize teams around common objectives.
  • Collaborative, empathetic, and quality-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and draw relevant insights for design.
  • Good knowledge of online gaming communities and live streaming platforms such as Twitch.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and passion for the evolution of video games and its market.
