Director of Revenue Accounting

About the role

Hopper is looking for a Director of Revenue Accounting to take charge of our end-to-end revenue recognition and partner economics function — and to do so from scratch. This is a high-responsibility individual contributor role, reporting directly to the Global Corporate Controller, at the intersection of technical accounting, data infrastructure, and commercial partnerships. You will evolve manual processes into a fully automated solution in NetSuite, while acting as the primary financial point of contact for a wide range of partner agreements.

What your day-to-day would look like

  • Design and implement the automated billing and revenue accounting cycle in NetSuite, transforming current manual processes into a scalable and repeatable solution

  • Collaborate with the data warehouse team to reconcile source data, identify gaps, and make necessary corrections to ensure accurate data flows into accounting processes

  • Take charge of the full billing cycle for all partner agreements — revenue sharing, commissions, and other structures — from setup through collection

  • Interpret and account for complex deal structures, including tiered revenue shares, variable commissions, clawbacks, and multi-element arrangements

  • Ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and draft the necessary technical accounting memos

  • Maintain the accounts receivable subledger, perform reconciliations with the general ledger, and manage the month-end close for all partner revenue streams

  • Use advanced SQL to extract, validate, and reconcile large sets of transactional data independently, without relying on a data team

  • Read and interpret commercial contracts to identify accounting implications; collaborate with business development and legal teams when structuring new agreements

  • Act as the primary financial point of contact for external partners regarding dispute resolution, remittance requests, and contract interpretation

  • Oversee collections, including reviewing accounts in arrears, escalation, and resolution of overdue balances

  • Establish internal controls and support external audits related to revenue and partner accounting

  • Bilingual communication (French and English) is an asset

The ideal profile

  • CPA designation required

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including revenue recognition and billing for partners or clients

  • Advanced SQL skills — ability to extract and reconcile data independently, without relying on a data team

  • In-depth knowledge of ASC 606 and demonstrated experience in drafting technical accounting memos

  • Ability to read and interpret commercial contracts and identify their accounting implications

  • Strong skills in reconciling data from multiple, large-scale sources

  • Experience in managing collections and relationships with external partners

  • Clear and confident communication style, both with senior management and external partners

  • Asset: experience with NetSuite (accounts receivable, billing, and automation)

  • Asset: experience in a high-growth technology company or marketplace

  • Asset: experience collaborating with engineering or data warehousing teams

This position requires proficiency in French and English. The successful candidate will be required to communicate and collaborate regularly with colleagues, managers, clients, suppliers, and business partners located outside of Quebec, as well as consult, prepare, and use documentation, systems, and communications in both French and English. Knowledge of English is therefore necessary for the performance of the duties associated with the position as well as to meet operational requirements and client needs in an international business environment.

About Hopper

At Hopper, our mission is to become the go-to travel platform globally — powering the Hopper mobile app and website, as well as our B2B division, HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions). By leveraging vast amounts of data and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, Hopper combines a world-class travel agency offering with proprietary fintech products to provide transparency, flexibility, and savings to travelers around the world. We have developed several unique fintech solutions that address everything from price volatility to travel disruptions — to help people travel better and save more.

The Hopper platform serves hundreds of millions of travelers globally and continues to gain market share everywhere in the world. The Hopper app has been downloaded over 120 million times and has become particularly popular with young travelers — with 70% of its users being Gen Z or millennials.

Although everyone knows us as the travel app for millennials and Gen Z, Hopper has evolved to become much more than that. In recent years, we have become a travel fintech provider, a commerce platform, and a global travel agency that powers some of the world's largest brands.

Through HTS, our B2B division, the company amplifies its partners' direct channels by integrating our fintech products on their sites or powering end-to-end travel portals. Today, our partners include leading travel brands like Capital One, Nubank, Air Canada, and many others.

Here are some statistics that illustrate the company's recent growth:

  • Billions of dollars in travel and travel fintech are sold each year via Hopper and HTS channels

  • Our fintech products — including Cancel for Any Reason and Flight Disruption Assistance — show exceptionally high customer satisfaction rates because the terms are always clear and customers receive instant resolutions, no questions asked

  • Nearly 30% of our app customers purchase at least one fintech product when booking; and consumers are 1.6 times more likely to book again if they add a fintech product to their booking

  • Building on the success of its fintech products, Hopper launched a B2B initiative, HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions), which represents more than 75% of the company's business

  • Via HTS, any travel provider (airlines, hotels, banks, travel agencies, etc.) can seamlessly integrate and distribute Hopper's fintech or travel inventory on their direct channels. As part of its first HTS partnership, the company partnered with Capital One to co-develop Capital One Travel, a new travel portal designed specifically for cardholders. Other HTS partners include: Air Canada, Uber, CommBank, Nubank, Flair Airlines, and many others

Hopper was named the most innovative company in the travel sector by Fast Company.

We have raised over $750 million USD in private capital and are backed by some of the world's largest institutional investors and banks. HTS is poised to continue its growth as the leading travel e-commerce provider in a $1 trillion online shopping category. The Hopper app and website will also continue to be the preferred travel provider for Gen Z and millennials.
