Cover Supervisor

Salary: This is an hourly paid role. £16.45 per hour, plus holiday pay
Working Hours: Casual, Zero hours contract
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cover Supervisor to join our Cross Curriculum department.
The purpose of the role is to supervise classes during the short-term absence of the assigned lecturer
The successful applicant must have:

Cover or teaching experience in a secondary school, Academy or FE environment (14 to adult provision).

Experience of working with young people aged 14-19.

Numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to Level 2 or GCSE Grade C in Maths and English.

Understanding of the curriculum areas of the College.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and within a team.

Behaviour management skills and the ability to manage students in a classroom setting.

Be diplomatic.

Competent in the use of ICT to support teaching and learning.

Highly flexible and adaptable as there is not a regular timetable/ subject area.

Have good weekly availability.
The roles main duties include:
- Supervise work that has been set by a Lecturer or Manager
- Manage the behaviour of students whilst they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive environment.
- Respond to any questions from Students about process and procedures for completing their work. Discussing and debating texts with Students and answering questions where appropriate.
- Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies in line with the College’s policies and procedures.
- Mark registers promptly and report absences to the student mentors.
- Collect completed work at the end of the lesson and pass to the appropriate Lecturer or Head of Curriculum.
- Report, as appropriate using the College’s agreed systems such as Promonitor on the behaviour of students during the class, and on any problems arising.
- Familiarise yourself with the College’s policies and procedures on health and safety, behaviour management, equal opportunities, SEND and inclusion.
This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.

Grantham College operate a 4-day working week. Staff benefit from working a full-time contract over four days. You will work core hours of Monday to Thursday, working a Friday morning once a month.
