About the role
Hopper is looking for an Assistant Controller to partner with the Global Corporate Controller at a critical inflection point — this is a builder role with a mandate to automate the accounting close, build the data infrastructure connecting the warehouse to NetSuite, and design the reporting framework that bridges GAAP and management figures. You will lead the external audit, own technical accounting, and oversee the month-end close with a high degree of autonomy. At Hopper, we aim for 100% automation, without exception — and this role is at the heart of that ambition.
What your day-to-day would look like
-
Take charge of technical accounting research and drafting memos covering ASC 470 (convertible notes, warrants), ASC 606, ASC 842, stock-based compensation, new product accounting, as well as complex equity and financing transactions
-
Lead global external audit management for all entities, acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors
-
Design and implement the internal control framework and drive SOX compliance readiness
-
Oversee the quality and GAAP compliance of the month-end close, identify gaps and exceptions, and maintain high standards within the accounting operations team
-
Manage multi-entity and multi-currency consolidation, intercompany reconciliations, and transfer pricing compliance
-
Map data flows from the warehouse to NetSuite, identify gaps, and collaborate with the engineering team to automate the close
-
Build and automate the reconciliation framework between management figures and GAAP figures
-
Deploy AI tools within the accounting function to eliminate manual tasks
-
Supervise the accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury operations teams
The ideal profile
-
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a demonstrated ability to operate at a director level
-
Active CPA designation
-
Public company experience — you have evolved at scale and understand what a mature finance function is
-
Proven experience as a primary point of contact during external audits, not just as a file preparer
-
Hands-on experience drafting technical accounting memos on complex topics
-
Experience in internal control design and SOX compliance
-
Experience in systems design and process automation — you have built processes, not just maintained them
-
An automation-focused approach and genuine comfort with AI tools
-
Skills in SQL or data querying — or a clear willingness to develop them, in order to investigate data issues independently without relying on engineering
-
Experience with NetSuite (configuration, data architecture, or close automation) is a significant asset
-
Experience in the travel, fintech, or marketplace sectors is an asset
-
Experience in preparation for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) is an asset

Learn more about Hopper
At Hopper, our mission is to become the leading travel platform globally — powering the Hopper mobile app and website, as well as our B2B division, HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions). By leveraging large volumes of data and cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, Hopper combines a world-class travel agency offering with proprietary fintech products to provide transparency, flexibility, and savings to travelers around the world.
The Hopper platform serves hundreds of millions of travelers globally and continues to gain market share. The app has been downloaded over 120 million times and is particularly popular with young travelers — 70% of users belong to Gen Z and Millennials.
Although we are known as the travel app for Millennials and Gen Z, Hopper has evolved to become much more than that. In recent years, we have established ourselves as a travel fintech provider, commerce platform, and global travel agency serving some of the world's largest brands.
Through HTS, our B2B division, we amplify our partners' direct channels by integrating our fintech products into their platforms or powering comprehensive travel portals. Our partners today include leading brands such as Capital One, Nubank, Air Canada, and many others.
Some figures illustrating the company's recent growth:
-
Billions of dollars in travel and travel fintech are sold each year via Hopper and HTS channels
-
Our fintech products — including Cancel for Any Reason and Flight Disruption Assistance — show exceptional customer satisfaction rates, thanks to always-clear terms and instant, no-questions-asked resolutions
-
Nearly 30% of our customers purchase at least one fintech product when booking; and consumers are 1.6 times more likely to return if they added a fintech product to their booking
-
Building on the success of its fintech products, Hopper launched the HTS B2B initiative, which now represents more than 75% of the business
-
Via HTS, any travel service provider (airlines, hotels, banks, travel agencies, etc.) can integrate and distribute Hopper's fintech products or travel inventory on their direct channels
