What is the Scottish Government?
The Scottish Government is the devolved national government of Scotland, responsible for policy and public services in devolved areas — health, education, justice, transport, environment, the economy, communities and rural affairs. It supports the First Minister and Scottish Ministers and delivers services through directorates and arm's-length bodies across Scotland.
Where will I work?
Hybrid working from Scottish Government offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee (plus other locations), with a mix of office and home working depending on the role.
What is the team like?
Around 7,000 civil servants spanning policy, analysis, digital, finance, communications, legal and operations, plus specialist roles such as economists, statisticians, scientists and inspectors.
Work-Life Balance
The Scottish Government offers a range of flexible working options including compressed hours. From the Flexible Working page on jobs.gov.scot: "Flexi-time, term-time and compressed hours" are available, on top of the standard 35-hour working week ("We are reducing the working week to 35 hours from 1 October 2024"). Compressed hours let staff work their contracted 35 hours over fewer, longer days on full pay.
