What is Petal?
Petal, formerly PetalMD, is "a leading Canadian healthcare orchestration and billing company". Patrice Gilbert founded it in Montreal in 2010, when "clinical workflows, scheduling, billing, and capacity oversight relied heavily on manual processes—closed spreadsheets, handwritten notes, and siloed systems." What began as a digital scheduling solution is now what Petal calls a real-time healthcare orchestration platform, used by clinics, emergency departments, pharmacies and health authorities to run scheduling, workforce and revenue operations. Its billing businesses include Medcom, which calls itself the leading medical billing services provider in British Columbia, and Xacte, a billing platform for doctors and clinics in Quebec. Petal says it has helped 10 million patients and supports more than 3,500 care teams and 100,000 users. It pictures a health system where "access to care within 36 hours is not an aspiration, but the standard".
Where will I work?
It depends on the role, and Petal is direct about it: "a company cannot claim to be modern, innovative and have the well-being of their team at heart, without attempting to integrate remote working to the level that their business model allows them to." Employees keep "the option of teleworking up to the maximum flexibility permitted by the nature of the position and the smooth running of operations", and every posting includes a recurring hybrid work allowance. Of the four roles open in September 2026, a software architect and a customer success manager are remote, and a billing and revenue operations lead in Montreal and a French-language medical billing specialist in Quebec City are hybrid; the Quebec City role is in the office one day a week. Petal's head office is on de Gaspé Avenue in Montreal, and it lists offices in Quebec City, Toronto, Regina, Edmonton and Vancouver, plus Boston and Paris.
What is the Petal team like?
A Canadian team: "Our development and support teams are 100% Canadian," Petal says, and its data is hosted in Canada to meet PHIPA, SOC 2 Type II and provincial compliance standards. Its five core values are Ambition ("Think big"), Action ("Make it happen"), Intention ("Put customers first"), Collaboration ("Work together") and Expertise ("Know your stuff"), and it has been listed as a Great Place to Work in both the technology and healthcare sectors. Founder Patrice Gilbert is still CEO, with a leadership team drawn from healthcare, technology and operations. Roles range from software architecture and customer success to medical billing, and Quebec roles are advertised in French. Petal describes itself as "an active participant in the equal opportunity employment program" and encourages applications from women, people with disabilities, Aboriginal peoples and visible minorities.
Work-Life Balance
Every posting offers "4 to 6 weeks of paid vacation per year" and "5 paid personal days per year", on top of statutory holidays: at least 33 days off a year with Quebec's eight holidays, and more in provinces with more. The English postings add "Flexible work hours", and the careers page promises "Generous and flexible vacation and PTO policies" and "Flexible hours and remote work". Hours are otherwise conventional: the French billing role is a full-time day schedule of 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday.
