About Electric SQL
What is Electric?
Electric (Electric DB Inc.) is "the data platform for multi-agent systems," building three open source products — Electric Agents, Electric Streams and Electric Sync — on Postgres and Durable Streams, and running them as a managed service on Electric Cloud. Electric Agents is "the runtime for long-lived agents… resumable across devices, observable across teams, forkable for review and experimentation." Electric Streams is the data primitive (a "swiss-army-knife for agent session data") and Electric Sync is the underlying sync engine.
The technology is open protocol, Apache 2.0, and uses standard HTTP. Benchmarks show Electric scaling to over 1 million concurrent readers with 99% CDN cache hit rate while keeping database load flat. The company is a Seed-stage VC-backed startup, with funding led by Spark Capital, Lunar Ventures, StepFunction, Firestreak and Ninja Capital. Angel investors include Paul Copplestone (CEO Supabase), Spencer Kimball (CEO Cockroach), Jordan Tigani (CEO MotherDuck), José Valim (creator of Elixir), and Monica Sarbu (CEO Xata).
