About CrabNebula

What is CrabNebula?

CrabNebula is an open-source-focused company building privacy-first tools for app developers. Its mission, stated on the company's About page, is "enabling individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses to sustainably build, develop and distribute their apps to the universe." Co-founded by Daniel Thompson-Yvetot (CEO) and Lucas Nogueira (CTO) — the same engineers who co-founded the Tauri open-source project in 2019 — CrabNebula sustains the Tauri community through ongoing code contributions and audits and offers commercial products built on top of it: Taurify (web-to-desktop wrapper), Cloud (managed distribution), DevTools (Tauri debugging), On-Top (always-on-top utilities), plus European Compliance, Security Auditing, and bespoke Software Development consulting.

In April 2023 the company announced a $7.5M seed round led by OSS Capital with more than 20 angel investors including Naval Ravikant, Guillermo Rauch (Vercel CEO), Tom Preston-Werner (GitHub co-founder), Thomas Dohmke (GitHub CEO), Adam Wiggins (Heroku co-founder), Spencer Kimball (Cockroach Labs CEO), Paul Copplestone (Supabase CEO), Clement Delangue (Hugging Face CEO) and Bob Young (former Red Hat CEO). The Tauri partnership formalising CrabNebula's stewardship role was announced jointly on the v2.tauri.app blog.

Where will I work?

CrabNebula is a fully distributed, 100% remote company headquartered in Malta with team members spread across more than a dozen countries and time zones. The careers page advertises "Relocation Opportunity" for hires who want to move to Malta, but it is optional. The about page's three core values frame the work: Private & Secure by Design, Optimize for Sustainability, and Open Source & Accessible.

What is the CrabNebula team like?

Leadership is a three-person executive: Daniel Thompson-Yvetot (CEO), Lucas Nogueira (CTO) and Elizabeth Duck (COO). Around them is a small engineering- and open-source-heavy team committed to long-term sustainability of Tauri and the privacy-first developer tooling ecosystem. The angel-investor roster (Vercel, GitHub, Heroku, Supabase, Hugging Face, Cockroach, Red Hat) reflects the company's deep roots in modern OSS leadership.

Work-Life Balance

The careers page is direct about the schedule: "4-Day Work Week" and "6 Weeks Vacation" are listed as standard benefits. Country-specific benefits adjust local statutory entitlements on top.

Perks and Benefits

From the live careers page, verbatim:

  • 100% Remote — work from anywhere in the world
  • 4-Day Work Week at full salary
  • 6 Weeks Vacation as standard, plus public holidays in your country
  • Country-Specific Benefits layered on top (healthcare etc. vary by jurisdiction)
  • Relocation Opportunity to Malta if you want it

The company welcomes proactive applications even when no specific role is open ("Apply to Dream Job to start the conversation").
