About Chordify

Who We Are

Chordify is a music e-learning platform that turns any song into chords so musicians of all skill levels can play along. The platform was founded by a group of ex-band members during "intense hackathon weekends" and officially launched at the Eurosonic festival in Groningen in 2013 with a rooftop concert at the Grote Markt. From those origins, Chordify has grown into a Dutch scale-up with over 50 experts working from offices in Groningen, Utrecht and Berlin, plus more than 12 nationalities represented across the team.

Where will I work?

Chordify is headquartered at Stationsweg 3G, 9726 AC Groningen, with a second office at Burgemeester Reigerstraat 89, 3581 KP Utrecht — both in The Netherlands. The company also has team members in Berlin (DE). The careers page describes Chordify as a workplace "where everyone is welcome, regardless of gender, origin, religion, disability, age or sexual orientation" and actively encourages applications from people under-represented in tech and music.

What is the Chordify team like?

The leadership comprises four co-founders: Bas de Haas (CEO), Tijmen Ruizendaal (CTO), Dion ten Heggeler (CBDO) and Gijs Bekenkamp (CMO), with Sjoerd Tieleman as the second CTO and Leo Vissers as CFO. The 50-strong team spans Back-end and Front-end Developers, iOS/Android Developers, UX/UI Designers, Music Information Retrieval Researchers (PhD-track scientists working on the chord-recognition algorithm), Guitar Educational Experts, Marketing Automation Experts, User Researchers and HR. The current Employee Satisfaction Index (Q2 2025) sits at 8.07. Chordify operates in self-managing teams: "everyone is accountable for specific roles. This way we are teamed up in a flexible, autonomous and transparent way." Five core values guide the work: Be Passionate About Music, Grow As You Go, No Guts No Glory, Take Care Of Yourself And Your Work, and Be Excellent To Each Other.

Work-Life Balance

The careers page explicitly normalises flexibility: "Flexible and part-time working is normal in our family-friendly company culture" and "We don't care if you want to take an extra day off, as long as you get your shit done." The DB schedule policy offers all positions on a pro-rata basis — full-time roles can be taken at four days a week. The autonomy-first model means employees fulfill different roles in a "purpose-driven workforce" rather than being micro-managed: "Be yourself: suits, hoodies or flip-flops? It's up to you."

Perks and Benefits

Chordify publishes its perks on the careers page: a Recurring Personal Music Budget (so the team can keep "living their music"), a Retirement Plan, Collective Bonuses, "Great Coffee," Friday Afternoon Drinks and Team Outings, Courses and training opportunities, a Lease Bike scheme (standard Dutch employer benefit), and Free delicious lunches in the offices.
