About Brevity

What is Brevity?

Team Brevity is a boutique engineering consultancy operating across Australasia, specialising in four practice areas: interiors, racking, events, and digital consulting. The firm helps construction professionals and asset owners balance product specification, buildability, life safety, and compliance — work that includes seismic and wind load engineering for interior walls and ceilings, pallet-racking certification, event structure engineering (stages, lighting towers, grandstands), and custom software for the architecture-engineering-construction (AEC) industry.

The team is led by Managing Director Matt Bishop, whose career spans over two decades in construction including 15 years leading a consultancy specialising in seismic design and commercial interiors compliance. Matt also created PRENGUIN, a software platform Brevity uses to streamline interiors compliance work. The firm operates through four sub-brands per geography: Brevity Digital, Brevity Events, Brevity Interiors, and Brevity Racking — each in both Australia and New Zealand.

Where will I work?

Brevity is headquartered at 37D Crummer Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland 1021, New Zealand. The firm operates as a Work-From-Anywhere (WFA) team, with staff distributed across New Zealand, Australia, and the Philippines. To support culture across time zones, the team built Watercooler Chats — an internal anonymous-drop-in web app (created by Lead Software Developer Angus Gieseg) for short, non-work conversations between WFA colleagues.

What is the Brevity team like?

Brevity publishes a large, named team. Beyond Matt Bishop (MD), the public roster includes De Vante Puiri-Tuia (Market Lead), Irina Cherkasova (CFO), Gye Simkin (Sales Lead), Georgia Periam (Delivery Lead and 4DWW co-lead during the original trial), Francesca O'Connell (Senior Industry Consultant with 9 years of interior design experience across NZ and Australia), Bernadine Phillips (Senior Accounts Officer), Daniel Bulbring and Siamak Mosaferi (Senior Engineers), engineers and technicians across years I–III (Chrismagne Elikana, Aaron Loi Teik Yi, Terence Abdon, Elijah Joshua Arciaga, Regi Val Contillo, Ryota Kagimori, Mario Ramos), plus Rebecca Brewer (Sales Coordinator) and Nima Shokrollahi (Engineering Developer). Real projects on the books include compliance work for Waikeria Prison's $750m development.

Work-Life Balance

Brevity was one of 20 companies from New Zealand and Australia to take part in the August 2022 Four Day Work Week pilot supported by 4 Day Week Global. The firm's own writing describes the model as the "100/80/100" mantra: 100% of pay, for 80% of the time, for 100% of the output. Throughout the first trial productivity was maintained even as the team reduced hours by 20%, and Brevity ran a second trial starting 12 June 2023 in a different financial environment. The trial included a working group with representatives from engineering, delivery, finance, and sales, and monthly per-department productivity-improvement requirements. Part-time staff are also eligible: their gift day is 20% of their contracted hours each week, contingent on team goals.

Perks and Benefits

The defining benefit is the four-day work week (32 hours paid as 40) — at Brevity it is built on a measurable productivity floor and an explicit working group that designs the policy alongside leadership. The Work-From-Anywhere model means the team works across NZ, Australia, and the Philippines without a fixed office requirement, and the company invests in tools like Watercooler Chats to maintain culture across distances. New engineers join a structured progression (Yr I, II, III, Senior, Senior Specialist) with named mentors. Brevity is the only professional-services firm to have participated in the original Australasian 4DWW pilot, so joining means working at a firm that has publicly invested in the policy through multiple iterations.
