About BC Cancer Foundation
What is BC Cancer Foundation?
The BC Cancer Foundation is "the philanthropic partner of BC Cancer" and calls itself "the driving force behind progress in cancer research and care across British Columbia." Its careers page says it is "dedicated to making a difference for families across British Columbia facing cancer", working "with our donors to support breakthrough advancements in cancer research and enhancements to care for the people of B.C." Every dollar it raises "stays in B.C."
The Foundation was founded in May 1935 "to provide cancer care and treatment throughout the province". Its history page says it "has more than 82,000 donors and received over 279,000 individual donations in 2024". Donor money backs BC Cancer's research, equipment and clinical trials (BC Cancer "is advancing more than 380 active clinical trials", the homepage says), and "four more BC Cancer regional centres will open in Burnaby, Nanaimo, Kamloops and a second in Surrey by 2030."
Where will I work?
At the Foundation's office at 900 – 988 W. Broadway in Vancouver, or at a regional office: "We also have offices in each of the six BC Cancer centres, located in Vancouver, Victoria, Surrey, Abbotsford, Prince George and Kelowna." In October 2026 its careers page lists four openings: Associate Director, Research & Prospect Analytics; Data & Reporting Specialist; Development Officer, Leadership Giving (Fraser Region); and Development Officer, Gift & Estate Planning. The listings link to Indeed and to two recruitment firms, and the Foundation also accepts resumes "for future opportunities". Its own pages do not mention remote or hybrid work and publish no pay ranges.
What is the BC Cancer Foundation team like?
The careers page says the team prides itself "on being Professional, Passionate and Positive": "We actively participate; we are respectful and considerate", "we engage with our team" and "we recognize each other and provide kudos; we encourage dialogue." In February 2026 the Foundation was named one of BC's Top Employers for the first time. It describes "a people‑centred workplace built on employee input, open communication and a shared commitment to our mission", supports staff "through generous time‑off practices and comprehensive benefits", and invests "in employee growth through development opportunities that help team members advance their skills and careers." Its work, in its own words, brings "together individuals, industry and corporations with clinicians and scientists to push the boundaries of what’s possible".
Work-Life Balance
The careers page offers "Generous vacation plans" of "4 or 5 weeks, depending on role", and a "Gift of Time": "Office closure between Christmas Eve and New Years, plus half day office closures before each statutory holiday". The Top Employers announcement adds "four to five weeks of starting vacation (depending on employee group) and additional paid days off during the winter holiday period". With British Columbia's 11 statutory holidays, 20 vacation days already make 31 days off. The winter closure adds about four working days beyond Christmas Day and New Year's Day (December 28–31 in 2026), and the half days before the other nine statutory holidays add four and a half more: about 39 days a year. Parents returning from leave have "the option to phase in a return to work with gradually increasing hours".
