Question 1

What is the 100-80-100 model?

Accepted Answer

The 100-80-100 model is the most common 4-day work week structure: 100% of the pay, 80% of the hours, with 100% productivity. Employees receive their full salary while working 32 hours instead of 40. Companies achieve this through better meeting hygiene, focused work blocks, and reduced distractions.

Question 2

Do you get paid less on a 4-day week?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the model. Most companies adopting a true 4-day week use the 100-80-100 model where employees keep their full salary. Some companies use a pro-rata (80% pay) model instead. In the UK 4-day week pilot, the vast majority of companies maintained full pay. Check job listings on 4dayweek.io to see each company's specific policy.

Question 3

How does a 4-day week affect my hourly rate?

Accepted Answer

With the 100-80-100 model (full pay, fewer hours), your effective hourly rate increases by 25%. For example, if you earned $50/hour over 40 hours, you would effectively earn $62.50/hour over 32 hours while taking home the same total pay. With the 80% pro-rata model, your hourly rate stays the same.

Question 4

What is the difference between hourly and annual salary?

Accepted Answer

An hourly salary is the rate you earn per hour worked, while an annual salary is your total yearly compensation. To convert: annual = hourly x hours per week x weeks per year. For a $50/hour role working 40 hours over 48 weeks, the annual salary would be $96,000.

Question 5

Are 4-day week jobs competitive on salary?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Companies offering 4-day weeks typically maintain market-rate salaries. Many find that the improved work-life balance acts as a non-monetary benefit, allowing them to attract top talent without paying above-market rates. Some companies even report that they can offer slightly lower base salaries because the 4-day week is so highly valued.

Question 6

How do benefits work on a 4-day week?

Accepted Answer

On a full-pay 4-day week (100-80-100 model), all benefits remain unchanged: health insurance, retirement contributions, paid time off, and other perks are calculated on your full salary. On a pro-rata model, some benefits may be adjusted proportionally, though this varies by company.

Question 7

What about overtime on a 4-day week?

Accepted Answer

Overtime policies vary by company and jurisdiction. In a 32-hour 4-day week, working a 5th day could technically be overtime. Most 4-day week companies set clear boundaries to prevent scope creep back to 5 days. Check your employment contract and local labor laws for specifics.
